We've already told you that Eliza Dushku was signed to star in the show and that Battlestar Galactica's Tahmoh Penikett had joined her (along with Dichen Lachman, Enver Gjokaj, and Fran Kranz from Welcome to the Captain, which I doubt will be back on CBS next season), and now comes word about other cast additions that will thrill fans of a show about a vampire (no, not this one).

Continue reading More Dollhouse casting announced

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Eight TV law firms that Eliot Spitzer may want to represent him

Filed under: OpEd, Boston Legal, Angel, TV Squad Lists, Eli Stone

Unless you've been in a coma over the last week (and if you have, I'm glad you're back) you probably know a little something about the troubles former New York governor Eliot Spitzer has been having. Not to go into to much detail, but it has something to do with an illegal prostitution ring, taking said prostitutes across state lines, and a little bit of money laundering. Hence, the reason he isn't "current" New York governor Eliot Spitzer anymore (at least as of noon on Monday).

To defend himself against these charges, Spitzer has hired a set of pretty powerful lawyers to help him put together a strong defense. But, will these purveyors of truth and justice be the ones who keep Governor Spitzer out of the pokey? I'm thinking not. In fact, I think Spitzer is barking up the wrong tree when it comes to the people who will defend him in court. What he should really be doing is visiting some of the high-profile television law firms that have been able to make a jury bawl in their seats over a serial killer's second amendment rights.

Here are but a few of the TV law firms the former governor should consider.

Rather than dedicate separate posts to this news, I'll round everything up here, at least this time around.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - season eight - Issues #10 & #11
These were stand-alone "episodes," unlike 'The Long Way Home' and 'No Future for You'. A few things are revealed here that help keep the Big Bad of this season in play. Willow has even more power than we could have realized in past seasons, and an unexpected person has a crush on Buffy. I really liked 'A Beautiful Sunset' (#11) more than any other issue, with a great moment where one of the main, masked antagonists is almost revealed. Classic Joss writing.

A new multi-part series kicks off March 5, written by veteran Drew Goddard.
Continue reading TV in comics update: Buffy, Angel, The Stranded and Serenity

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Torchwood: The season so far

Filed under: Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Torchwood, Episode Reviews

Did you really think Captain Jack wouldn't be back? Now in its second series/season in both the UK and the US, we're going to do things a little differently with our Torchwood reviews this year. The fine folks on both sides of the pond finally got things squared away so that new episodes air much closer in the US to their initial UK airing. The third episode airs this Saturday, February 9, on BBC America, which is a little more than a week after the UK airing. To minimize any "spoilery" concerns, the episode reviews will follow the US airings.

But before we can get to that, we need to play a little bit of catch up, so look for an overview of the first two episodes of Series/Season Two after the jump. And about that image up there spoiling the first episode? Hey, that might just be a flashback sequence. That's right, I got you there.
Continue reading Torchwood: The season so far

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

TV Squad's guide to spending your holiday loot: Books

Filed under: OpEd, Festivus, Retro Squad, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, TV Squad Lists

Hopefully the gelt you received this past holiday season hasn't been all used up on paying your credit card bills for the gifts you gave this holiday season. That's because there are a number of books about television that you could be using that free money towards. There are books about TV shows, books about TV characters, books written by TV characters, and just general television history books. There are so many books about television already out or about to be released that you could easily spend countless hours reading them on the steps of your local library after the nuclear holocaust.

Just don't break your glasses.

So, here are eight titles to get you started.

Continue reading TV Squad's guide to spending your holiday loot: Books

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Angel Vs. What DVDs would you buy?

Amazon is making your decision a little bit easier for you. They have a special bundle for sale, nine different FOX/MGM shows at 49% off. OK, it's still a little pricey at $900 (you could probably put that money toward your rent), but look at what you get: the Buffy, The Vampire Slayer Collector's Set, The Angel Collector's Set, The X-Files Ultimate Collection, all ten Stargate: SG-1 seasons and all three Stargate Atlantis seasons, all four seasons of The Pretender (plus the movies), all three seasons of Roswell, both seasons of Dark Angel, and Firefly: The Complete Series. Not familiar with the name? Well, Brian is the co-author of the upcoming Angel season 6 comic coming soon from IDW Publishing, and he wants some of your input for potential entry into the series.

Three of the questions pertain to the original five-season run of the show. For instance, Lynch would like to know what other Angelverse character you'd like to see as a puppet other than Angel himself (who became one during the last season). Brian would also like to know who your favorite baddie was from both Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Finally, who do you think was the most under-appreciated character in Angel. Lynch clarifies what he wants by stating that characters such as Lorne or Wesley should not be included. He's talking about a character that has largely been ignored by fans.

You can reply to these questions at either the IDW discussion boards or at the Whedonesque website. You can also express you opinions here in this very blog.

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Top 15 hottest moms on television

Filed under: Other Drama Shows, Desperate Housewives, Gilmore Girls, Rescue Me, My Name Is Earl, Celebrities, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Heroes, TV Squad Lists
Welcome to TV Squad Lists (formerly 'The Five'), a feature where each blogger has a chance to list his or her own rundown of things in television that stand out from the rest, both good and bad.

Being newly single, I've been spending a lot of time these days thinking about the perfect woman. More often than not, my thoughts end up drifting into the realm of television and all of the perfect women there. So I decided to compile a list of the ten hottest moms on television. Unfortunately, there were way too many to fit on a top ten list, so I expanded the list to fifteen. This was a tough list to compile and I'm sure many of your favorites are absent, but I doubt that anyone can refute the fifteen below.

Susan Mayer - Desperate Housewives (Teri Hatcher) Hatcher has always been smoking hot but it wasn't until Desperate Housewives that she became a TV mom. The best part of her character is how Susan is continually clumsy, awkward and unsure of herself and still manages to be hot.

Continue reading Top 15 hottest moms on television

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

The 18 greatest TV drinkeries

Filed under: Other Drama Shows, Other Comedy Shows, Other Sci-Fi/Supernatural Shows, OpEd, Family Guy, Veronica Mars, Supernatural, How I Met Your Mother, The Sopranos, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Star Trek: The Next Generation, TV Squad Lists
Welcome to TV Squad Lists (formerly 'The Five'), a feature where each blogger has a chance to list his or her own rundown of things in television that stand out from the rest, both good and bad.

Ah, the friendly neighborhood drinking hole. And since I'm from the area, I have no business not making this number one.
Continue reading The 18 greatest TV drinkeries

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Joss Whedon dropped from Wonder Woman movie

Filed under: News, Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel
If you've been waiting to see how the guy who made the transformation of a former cheerleader named Buffy into an action hero seem credible was going to bring a superhero with a lasso and invisible airplane to the big screen, you're out of luck.

In a post to Whedonesque, Joss Whedon says he's no longer associated with the Wonder Woman movie. Apparently Whedon didn't share the studio's vision for the big-screen adaptation. He says the studio could have ordered a series of rewrites until his ideas were completely lost. But rather than have that happen, he's been pulled off the project.
Continue reading Joss Whedon dropped from Wonder Woman movie

Read | Permalink | Email this | | Comments

The Flanvention Aftermath

Filed under: Watercooler Talk, Celebrities, Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel
I posted on Friday about the craziness that was the Flanvention. After it was canceled at the last minute, fans sprung into action and organized their own little shindig. And based on reports about what happened, it sounds like it was a pretty amazing substitute for the originally planned affair.

It turns out that not only did most of the scheduled guests turn up for the impromptu gathering, but they managed to get even more people from the whedonverse in the mix as well. Fans made their way to Claire Kramer's restaurant, La Cantina, where the guest list included Nathan Fillion, Ron Glass, Morena Baccarin (pictured), Michael Fairman, Mark Sheppard, Jonathan Woodward, Yan Feldman, Christina Hendricks, Claire Kramer, James Leary, Camden Toy, Michael Muhney, and Greg Edmonson. That's an impressive list.

Of course, while a good time was had, it's not the end of the story. The strange dealings of event planer Booster Entertainment continue. The website that mysteriously disappeared with the announcement of the cancellation has popped up again. Kind of, they are getting hammered by people looking for answers, so it's very slow when it does load. At this point the big questions everyone is asking are: Where did the money go? And where are the refunds? It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Joss Whedon interview on Fanboy Radio today

Filed under: Web, Celebrities, Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel
Fans of Joss Whedon will want to point their browsers over to Fanboy Radio today at 6PM CST. They'll be having an interview that also features questions from the fans. If you have a query for Whedon, you can also go to the Fanboy forum and add it to the list.

Look for Goners, Wonder Woman, the Buffy and X-Men comics, and the possible future of Firefly to all factor into the conversation. I would expect that Veronica Mars just might come up as well, since Whedon once referred to it as "Best. Show. Ever." . And if this is too short notice for you, the show will be rebroadcast Tuesday at 1PM CST.

[ via whedonesque ]

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Snazzy auctions with Venture Bros., The Tick, Angel goodies

Filed under: Other Drama Shows, Other Comedy Shows, Late Night, TV Royalty, Adult Swim, Celebrities, Angel, The Venture Bros.
Lisa Hammer, voice of Triana Orpheus on The Venture Bros., heads a filmmaking company called Blessed Elysium, which usually makes a lot of wacky, surrealist short films of the German Expressionist persuasion. Her latest project is a feature film called POX, currently in post-production. The Blessed Elysium team is looking for a bit of help in funds for POX, so some excellent Ebay auctions have been set up. The Buffy, Angel and Firefly fanatics have created a community that has held multiple nationwide fundraisers for Whedon's favorite charitable organization Equality Now and single-handedly acted as the grassroots marketing engine behind Whedon's directorial film debut Serenity. Let's just say, they're a nice bunch.

A group of those fans has now turned its attention to honoring Whedon with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Their collective reasoning is sorta sweet. "It's a tangible way to show respect by giving him something else to add to his legacy and to show how much he means to us...It's not all about Joss...It's about family, not the one we are born into by blood, but the one that Joss created out of his work...We cannot give him the prestigious awards; most of us are not on any academy boards, nor people that have a choice of nominations." Sorta makes you tear up a bit, doesn't it? Pop culture making the connection. The people's star.
Continue reading Help Joss Whedon get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Angel: To Shanshu in L.A.
(S01E22) Don't believe everything you're foretold. -- Angel

Finally! After 21episodes, the death of Doyle, the introduction of Wolfram & Hart, Cordelia's visions, Wesley's partnership with Angel Investigations, and the appearances of Spike, Faith and Buffy (twice), we come to end of season one of Angel. During this first season we watched Angel become the undead hero of Los Angeles. In that time he became the enemy of Wolfram & Hart, a partner with Charles Gunn and his rag-tag team of vamp hunters, and the object of hate by Detective Kate Lockley (whom Angel pretty much tells off this episode. Good for him!). So, in this 22nd episode you would think that Angel and his crew would rest on their laurels and take a well-needed break.

Nope. In fact, totally the opposite. As they say on television, after this episode nothing is the same.
