'Lost's' Daniel Dae Kim tapped for 'Hawaii 5-0' remake

CBS's new incarnation of 'Hawaii Five-0' to a huge step towards becoming a reality with one casting move. Daniel Dae Kim will be playing one of the 'Hawaii Five-0' team. The 'Lost' veteran, who is available for work because the ABC drama ends on May 23, will be a cop on 'Five-0.' No, they're not making Steve McGarrett, the lead detective. Kim has been cast as Detective Chin Ho Kelly, the second or third guy, depending on the episode. In the original series, Kam Fong played the role, and James MacArthur as Dano was perceived more of the second guy on the team. But in today's more diverse era, Kim may have a more prominent role than Fong did.
As for McGarrett, there's still a lot of scuttlebutt that CBS will give the role to Alex O'Loughlin. It would make sense considering how determined the network is to find a series that will run beyond a season for the 'Moonlight' man. If it is O'Loughlin, the rest of the 'Five-0' crew might similar to the composition of 'NCIS: Los Angeles' with the exception of Linda Hunt. In other words, youthful, attractive and diverse.
Kim won't have to move for his new role. The new 'Hawaii Five-0' will be filmed in Hawaii, where 'Lost' has been shot for six seasons. At least he still wants to be on television. Based on comments by his 'Lost' colleagues, Matthew Fox and Evangeline Lilly, they're burned out and ready to disappear from the tube.

As much as I hate remakes, this has me interested. However, O'Loughlin in the Jack Lord role just doesn't seem right. He's better suited to the Danno role.

I know Linda Hunt is not a "bueaty queen" but, snap!, that was a left-handed instult. Jeeeze.

And as I've said before, they can do anything they like to "revamp" it and or "bring it up to speed" just don't mess with the awesome theme music from the original! :)

While it'd be wonderful to see another TV show entirely on location in Hawaii,I just cannot imagine Hawaii Five-O without the presence of Jack Lord after having grown up with the original.

Via Twitter, Michael Muhney (ed-Sheriff Lamb from Veronica Mars) is meeting with producers on this project. Wonder how that fits into all this?

A return of "Hawaii 5-0" is a terrific idea. But why recast McGarrett and Dan-O and everyone? They did the same thing when they tried to bring back "The Fugitive". Tim Daly's character shouldn't have been Richard Kimble. Instead, there should have been reference to Richard Kimble now and then. Likewise, "5-0" should have brand new characters. Characters that make reference to McGarrett and the cops that used to run the place. Instead, there will be comparisons made (as were made with "The Fugitive" TV remake) along the lines of, "this actor just isn't as good as McGarrett as Jack Lord was." I'll be watching for it though. We'll get to see a whole lot more of Oahu, aka: Paradise!
