Patrick Stewart can now count his knightship. You know him as Captain Jean-Luc Picard or Professor Charles Xavier, but once Queen Elizabeth II is done with him, the bald leading man extraordinaire will arise Sir Patrick Stewart, Knight of the Realm.

Now 69 years old, Stewart is known around the world for his lead roles in major sci-fi franchises like Star Trek and X-Men. But he was well-known to U.K. theatergoers for years as a 16-year member of the Royal Shakespeare Company where he specialized in playing kings and soldiers with his baritone pipes.

In fact, Stewart is fond of saying his years of playing The Bard's many kings prepared him for the center seat on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise.

Queen Elizabeth is reportedly a fan of Stewart and will award him his knighthood for recognition of his 50-year acting career.

Though known for his sophisticated trained vocal style, Stewart is a native of blue collar Yorkshire. The actor left home in his teens, hoping to become a reporter. But he soon took up "a career on the boards."
