This week, I answer questions about TV shows on DVD.
Q. dkaarma asks " Will these shows ever come out on DVD? Love Monkey? Daria?"
A. Thanks to TV Squad visitor C.A., I can offer you a link about Daria DVDs. You can also find the DVDs that have been released so far on the "Daria DVD" results page at Amazon.com.
As for Love Monkey, TVShowsOnDVD.com offers an interview with Tom Cavanagh in which he mentions that a DVD is in the works for the short-lived series. However, no release dates are offered.
Q. punksrus asks "Any chance Now and Again will come out on DVD?"
A. I visited some of the most popular websites about TV shows on DVD and none have news about Now and Again, starring Dennis Haysbert and Eric Close, being released on DVD. Amazon.com does have a page up for the potential DVD where you can live comments about the series and ask to be emailed when the DVD is released.
Note that this Amazon page doesn't guarantee that a DVD for the series will come out but it's a good place to let the production company, CBS Productions, know that you are interested by the DVD. You could also email CBS Productions directly. If the production company notices that there is enough fan interest to warrant the release of a DVD, the more chances you have of actually seeing the series hit the shelves in a store near you.

On a serious note, I'd like to know what is going on with local network affiliates. I realize ad revenue and viewership is down but come on. In the past few months they have started "branding" everything with large logos and run local snipes over first-run prime time shows - it's bad enough the networks do it. One station even runs it's station logo over national TV commercials - wouldn't that violate its affiliate franchise agreement?
Are these station actively trying to annoy people? This isn't the 1970's where people have no alternatives -content is readily available elsewhere on torrents, Youtube and Netflicks.
It's sad when I can watch a program in better quality on Youtube than my local station because the master control operator can't be bothered to "flip the switch" from SD to HD after commercials.

Can someone explain to me why The Larry Sanders Show has never come out on DVD (that "best of" DVD notwithstanding)? Larry Sanders was one of the best, funniest shows ever, and it's the only HBO series not to be released on DVD. The fact that they released that little 2 disc "best of larry sanders" thing strongly implies to me that they have no intention of releasing the full series.
Is there some legal bullshit - fights over copyrights - that is preventing the series from being released on DVD? Only the bane of copyright could prevent a beloved, long-cancelled TV series from being released on DVD, thus forcing it to suffer in obscurity where nobody can legally watch it. This is the best example I can give as to why I am opposed to copyright, and why copyright hinders the progress of the creative arts, as counterintuitive as that seems.
Regardless, I look forward to, and hope for the day when I can get the full series of Larry Sanders Show on DVD. Long overdue is an understatement.
