(S02E10) ""A wife and a fiance catfight ... please can we stop for popcorn on the way?" - CastleMolly C. Quinn is such a cutie. I loved the storyline this week where she volunteers to categorize evidence, and in doing so, uses her skills to help return someone's precious "brag book" to them. She takes after her dad in the "big heart" department.
Castle is good about that. They could have made Richard Castle as a roguish playboy who chases women and loves a good time, and while he's got some of that in him (see above quote), he's also a dedicated family man. The writers are good about the characters that way. Beckett is a hard-nosed detective, but she's also good with people, excelling at giving them bad news in such a way as to soften the blow.
This week's case had me guessing, but I figured it probably had something to do with the women, in that one or the other was in on it. I'm glad it turned out the way it did, with the guy being faithful to his wife and dying in the name of saving the environment.
And the writers did a pretty good job with the environmental storyline. I guess NBC isn't the only network that can do "green week" stories. Yeah, I was sort of groaning at the whole contrived storyline about the recycled battery technology being the impetus for the murder. But the episode had some good messages about green solutions, reducing waste, and saving energy. And to drive the point home, the guy was found in a "trash chute" at an apartment building.
Nice to see D.B. Woodside. He needs to get back on a regular series.
Fun Quotes:
"A killer who cleans up after himself. Very American Psycho." - Castle
"Big Castle is the one who likes to get in the way. I'm sure little Castle won't be a problem." - Beckett
Castle: "Know what doesn't add up to me?"
Beckett: "Two wives?"
Castle: "Two wives too many."
Beckett: "Seems like the common denominator in that is you."
Castle: "That ever happen with you? One day you look and your boy is all grown up?"
Martha: "We're still waiting for that moment to happen."
"Leading a man on isn't a crime, is it detective? - Sarah
"Should be." - Castle

Definitely one of the best procedurals on TV due to the characters and their relationships. And Castle's and his daughters is one of the best on tv. This week definitely played that up with a pretty good albeit convoluted storyline.

I enjoyed it, but haven't tuned in to the last three episodes. Once it became apparent that there really wasn't going to be much movement on Beckett's mother's murder, there seemed to be little point to watching.
I understand that there a people who enjoy a procedural / crime o' the week approach to TV. I just don't see the appeal and have to leave Fillion's latest off the list.
Personally, I don't see Castle getting a third season.
I wish Drive hadn't been cancelled!

Great episode! I hope they find ways to continue the quality of the show for years to come. I'm entirely sick of Crime shows in general, but Castle plays out like a good crime-novel does, with the little mysteries and twist thrown in to keep you interested. Here, the subplots are the icing on the cake, not spread too thick, but just enough to sweeten it up and show more dimension to the characters and their reasons for being who they are. Heck, they could probably do a few shows where there is not a case at all and get away with it -the characters here are so good.

Did anyone else notice that this episode was basically like the movie Duplicity?

This show is odd in that the chemistry seems off. The daughter and mother's relationships with Castle are better than the chemistry that exists between Castle and Beckett. If they can't correct this balance soon, this show is doomed. The cases have been dull and easy to diagnose and solve during the first half-hour of the show. Right now, it is a pleasant but not compelling show.
