Good Morning America cancels Adam Lambert concert

Adam Lambert has been on a lot of shows with "America" in the title, including
American Idol and
The American Music Awards. He won't be appearing on another show with that word in it though.
ABC has confirmed that
Lambert's appearance on Good Morning America on Wednesday has been canceled. And yes, we can all assume that it's because of Lambert's ridiculous performance on the
AMAs over the weekend, where he made out with a guy, dragged another guy along on a leash, and also simulated oral sex with a dancer who was down on this knees. You know, because Lambert wanted to be so EDGY. (
Update: Lambert will appear on CBS'
The Early Show instead, and Dick Clark Productions has
released a statement about the performance.)

I agree not so much because the performance was in poor taste, as that it was remarkably free of talent.

And yet when female performers do this kind of stuff, they're just owning their sexuality. Get over yourselves. GMA didn't cancel him because THEY were offended, they canceled his performance because Americans are small minded bigots with nothing better to do than tell other people how they should live. Grow up.

Annnd CBS Early Show has already stepped in and booked him for an interview and performance the same day as the performance canceled by ABC.
CBS - A+
ABC - F (But you get a "G" for gutless)

The performance was surely over the top and buy some standards in poor taste, but GMA has had controversial before. This is just a frightened network getting their panties in a twist. Lambert will survive without them.
CBS Early Show may not get as many viewers as GMA but Lambert will get to speak about the incident, air his side, and let people come to there own conclusions. Shame GMA couldn't do the same thing.

Absolutely not! I am pro-choice and pro-gay marriage. When I moved and joined a church, I made sure it was inclusive. No tolerance? Not for me. And yet, I thought this was in extremely poor taste.

I couldn't care less if Lambert is gay. If he wants to do that garbage in his own concerts where people who like that stuff pay to see it, that's his business, but when he puts it on national (public) television without any warning, it becomes my business. I don't like Madonna, Lady (?) Gaga or the rest of those who perform to please a certain audience either. I have a right to my opinion, too, and it doesn't make me small minded or a bigot.

When you only respond to the gay guy and not to Lady Gaga or Carrie Underwood for also being extremely sexualized, yeah, it kind of does.

1. Aren't all morning shows Wonder Bread?
2. I agree with Dan that the performance suffered more from lack of talent.
3. The irony is that the AMA's were pretty much created for ABC after the Grammy Awards went to CBS. Now ABC treats Lambert like he smells bad. ABC acts
like they were the innocent that was duped. ABC was certainly happy to promote Lambert's promote Lambert's appearance before the event. Now CBS gets to rub ABC's nose in it. This could end up being more entertaining than the performance.
4. It isn't like Lambert ever portrayed himself as low-risk. Isn't a bit like hiring Prince and then pretending to be shocked afterwards.

I'm not a fan but Lambert might have a point about double standards. What about win Britney and Modonna lip-locked? Girl on girl is "okay" but not guy on guy?

The above comments all seem just as judgmental and hypocritical towards people who don't want themselves or children exposed to this sort of indecent debauchery.
It goes both ways folks. Remember Janet Jackson's boob? It's not because he's a man. It's because when they committed themselves to watch a music award show, they weren't expecting a performance border-lining on soft-core porn.
You want to go ahead and put it on Comedy Central or (gasp) MTV at 11pm when most of America is asleep, go ahead.
The performance was over the top and, in my opinion, the large stage show compensated for his lack of talent. There are many other homosexual performers who have become the biggest stars in the world without having to expose hundreds of thousands of Americans to a performance like that.
While this might have given him an advantage in the short run, let's see him stand the test of time the way Elton John has been able to in the classiest of ways: writing and performing great music.
In 30 years, Adam Lambert's name will be known no better than Taylor Hicks' is now.

The Janet Jackson incident involved actual nudity. And while, yes, I agree that the blatant sexuality is irritating, we shouldn't just pick and choose what's "going too far" according to each and every individual--because each and every individual will have a difference in opinion over what's "going too far." We should just decide "No Sexuality" altogether, so there's no confusion. Underwood and Gaga were both dressed up like prostitutes, but it's only wrong if someone's face is near someone's crotch for 5 seconds? Yeah, this argument makes very little sense to me.

I liked his performance at the AMA's, and I'm a fan of his more so because of it. I'm eager to see him perform again.
People need to loosen up and be wild and fun, or at least allow our freakin' rock/pop stars to do so.

1,500 complaints out of the millions who watched. Why is this a reason for the network to even care?

I'm not sure of the number, but each written letter represents a certain number of people. I don't remember if it's 1,000 or 10,000 or what. But trust me, it's not just 1,500 people who are unhappy.
