(S02E07) "Finally got you thinking like a criminal. Wonders will never cease." - Cal to Gillian

I have to admit, that image of Cal Lightman in a girlie apron still makes me laugh out loud. Lie to Me may have scored a place in our drama category here on TV Squad, but in our household, we laugh all the way through the show. That's partly because my son does a perfect Cal Lightman impression, with his penguin walk and in-your-face look to see whether you're lying or not.

But on to this episode -- the perfect scenario for Lightman and team, in figuring out Max's lineage. I lost track of how many cold cases they solved along the way. Lots.

And here's something else that's funny. Emily knows her dad is a human lie detector, and yet she continues to try and put one over on him, like when he and Gillian baited her to go find Max and bring him back (way to take the heat, Gillian). Hello! Your dad knows when you're lying! Or when you're lying by not saying anything!

As for the Max/Owen case, you knew right off the bat that the first idea wouldn't fly. We were only 15 minutes or so into the episode. But the trail to learn his true parentage was twisty-turny enough to keep me guessing. Partly because we didn't really get to the gist of things until half-way through the ep.

Let's see if I can piece it together: The first parents' son drowned in the bathtub (can you imagine living with that all those years?). A baby was bought from Cheyenne, who got a baby from her drug dealer, who stole the baby from his parole officer after killing his wife for putting him back in prison, during which time his own child died. Something like that.

Well, at least Max/Owen is at long last back with his true father. That's funny that he felt an instant connection with Cheyenne, who wasn't his mother, but had none with his true father. They're totally different. That's ok. It's often the case with parents and kids.

Ok, that's about all I have to say on this episode, except for the fact that I liked it when Cal broke into the FBI database and then left the site open for Emily, just in case she had anyone she wanted to look up. "Your dad's committing a felony ... feel free ..."

Oh, and I love it when Cal puts the screws to someone. "Did you murder him?!!!"

And pulls no punches when something isn't right: "Stop hugging her, son. She's lying. She's not your mother."

I"ll just leave you with this quote from Emily:

"My dad's a human lie detector, my family has a history of suicide, my divorced parents sleep together sporadically and still insist on having made-up holidays..."
