Review: America's Next Top Model - Hawaii Hip Hop

(S13E10) America's Next Top Model continues to chug along with its petite models. At this point, the girls are pigeon holed into their story lines: Nicole - the awkward one, Laura - the southern belle, Erin - the prissy high schooler, and Jen - the sweet girl with an eye problem. They basically repeat something that fits their storyline.

Though I haven't mentioned this until now, what is up with Jen having these overly loud, sugary interviews? Screaming "Why Me?" followed by her squealing excitement for Laura picking her. It's almost as if she knows that she was stunt-cast and decided to have a fun time before she got eliminated.

While the girls learned the hula, they had to do a hip-hop portion and a solo. The girls continued their stereotypes. Jennifer has a fun time with the dance, looking the most graceful with the hula. Nicole still hasn't learned how to dance since episode six. Erin explains how she was a cheerleader and can learn steps easy; she had no passion. Laura unleashes this inner energy to her dance, like she does with her photos and wins a Maui vacation. She has to take a competitor and picks Jennifer. That was a given; I wouldn't want Erin complaining about helicopter rides or a really sedated Nicole.

The next Tyra mail mentions "explode" and "timing" for their photoshoot. All the elements of a sexual joke are there, but no one mentions it. At The Secret Beach, Jay drops a bomb on the girls: two girls will be going home. Jennifer's jaw hits the floor. It stays like that for the shoot. You know Jennifer thought that she was a shoo-in for final three and would have aced her CoverGirl commercial over monotone Nicole or dyslexic Laura.

The pressure and the sharp rocks must have gotten to the girls because none of them did great. Jennifer didn't connect her face to her body, something she's continuously forgotten for weeks. Nicole's dress is mostly her downfall as her sharp angles didn't work in it; several shots made her look pregnant. Laura's face wasn't right. Erin probably had the best shots, but Tyra doesn't want to acknowledge that.

The girls arrive at judging with Ann Shoket as the guest judge. Erin is first and her shot is glowing and pretty. Tyra called her shots sleepy. She needs tension, but not anger in her face. Jennifer's shot looks like she farted a wet wave. She compacted her body. Laura's face looks vacant, but the judges like it. I saw a deer in headlights. Nicole's closeup is strong, Nigel thinks she was only working head to waist.

Tyra announces the first finalist as Nicole. Tyra makes all three step forward and gives critiques to all three: Jennifer (losing her way), Laura (amazing photos, not as good in person), Erin (good start, then faltered). Tyra picks Laura as the last finalist. Tyra thanks the other two and they fade away from the group shot, conveniently leaving Laura and Nicole unblocked as the final two.

I think Nicole deserved to be in the final two and wouldn't mind any of the other three; the other three have too many flaws to become great models. Next week is the big finale; who do you think will win? Leave comments below.
