The term "adult video games" sounds admittedly dirty, so we'll steer clear of that and call CBS Consumer Products' upcoming line of TV series-based titles "grown up."CBS announced in a press release that they're breaking out a line of games related to hit shows that aren't exactly on the kids' radars -- what with their rock n' roll and their Hula-Hoops and their "Beavis and Buttheads." You'd expect to see console or computer games based on The Clone Wars or Battlestar Galatica, but Diagnosis: Murder and Hollywood Squares? What would Paul Lynde say?
But, those latter two shows are on the list, with a PC & Mac game heading our way in 2010 for Diagnosis and an iPod Touch and iPhone game of Squares coming next year.
Next year will also see a cross-platform game for The Amazing Race -- along with Survivor for Nintendo Wii and DS. Finally Criminal Minds and Ghost Whisperer will hit just for PCs.
This is a continued product line for CBS, as CSI: Deadly Intent is out there right now for Wii, Xbox 360 and PC. Since prime time crime dramas and reality shows don't appeal to the Resident Evil and Rock Band crowd, they're obviously targeting adult fans who managed to become techno-literate with those shiny metal robot boxes that play games and surf the Internets.
What unlikely shows would you like to see made into games? Personally, I'm holding out for Antiques Roadshow.

While I should be ecstatic, as these are my favorite reality shows... Wii & DS sullies that considerably. The Nintendo Wii & DS are a dumping ground for rushed, bargain basement games like The Price is Right 2009 game was.
So, until these games show up on the consoles serious gamers play, they'll still not be considered grown-up at all.
We'll see. I have 0 hope.
