The 'N' in NCIS stands for Naval. In case you didn't know that, I thought I'd tell you upfront, so that maybe the rest of this news will make sense. TV Guide has reported that Ray Mabus, the U.S. Secretary of the Navy is appearing on NCIS. Yes, that's right, the real United States Secretary of the Navy is going to guest on America's most watched drama series. Oh, one more thing. He's not playing the Secretary of the Navy. He's playing an NCIS agent. So until we get more information, it seems that Secretary Mabus simply has a desire to act and CBS is giving him a chance to show his stuff. Or maybe he's a really big fan of NCIS (he wouldn't be alone).
On November 24, the Thanksgiving week NCIS episode, the Gibbs, DiNozzo, McGee, David and company will be talking turkey, i.e. Thanksgiving, only to be put on a case instead. In the episode called "Child's Play," the NCIS team become involved with a child who may be the target of a killer. You see, there's this dead Marine. The clues connect him to a 12-year-old prodigy played by Madeline Carroll.
I can somehow see that the end of the episode is going to involve a Thanksgiving dinner with the little girl. But the mystery is this: will Secretary Mabus' character be in on the festivities?

They had the real Director if NCIS on the show before in the background as an agent. So I wouldn't assume that the Secretary of the Navy would have more then one line in the episode.

Also, if memory serves, the SecNav character appeared on screen in last year's "Lee is a traitor" two-parter ("Cloak" and "Dagger", if memory serves). Granted, SecNav is a political appointment, and the person in the role could change, but NCIS has a history of making their universe fit reality as much as possible (ie: Kate used to be on W's protection detail).
Also, this wouldn't be the first time a major military figure appeared in a fictional TV show. Senior Air Force officers have appeared as themselves on "Stargate SG1".

I agree - he ought to be playing the SecNav - that would just be too funny... (of course - when ever I think of the SecNav - I still think of the fictional one on JAG - "SecNav" would not even be part of my vocabulary if it were not for JAG (neither would "6" and "scuttlebutt" I caught myself using both in regular every day sentences the other day and went "yep...the influence of JAG lives on...)
I still want some crossovers from JAG though... Gunny really needs to make an appearance on NCIS... and Webb =D I miss them both =D

Webb made an appearance in an episode called "Chimera" during season 5. Don't remember if he played Agent Webb, but he was with "The Company". He was in charge of a mission taking place on a secret CIA boat when a USN officer died mysteriously. Original airdate was 10-30-2007

I do not believe the Secretary of the Navy has any business being on television. If this is all he has to do, he needs to have someone review his "To Do" list. The sailors under his command need him more than NCIS. I hope Obama fires him! We have many more issues for our leaders to deal with. Bad choice by this Secretary of the Navy!

I'd like to see them add Tom Selleck as a SecNav, after all he was a naval officer or maybe the Admiral from Jag Chedwidden older wiser lots of experience. They are both from Bellisaurius's Stable

I love NCIS, and while it does indulge in some creative license - it is a wonderful show. Yes it is a little gritty, but the world is gritty. As a cameo, let the SecNav have a little romp... he's getting minimum wage from the SAG ($486 a day, I think it is). If it adds a little realism, what's the harm? He's doing it on his time...

Maybe he is going to ship out with those other 40,000 soldiers to Afganistan on the show and give us a hint about what Bama'boy is thinking. Is Mabus a muslim name? maybe he will be double-agnt like that Nadel Hasan. Sometimes you have to do the dirty work to get your foot in the door. Not everybody can be a Fred Thompson.

No it is not an error. They are writing about the fact that the team will "become involved with 'because it is a future episode. Your so called correction of "the team became involved " would imply referring to something in an episode that happened in the past tense. Read things properly for goodness sake. Grammar police you evidently are not.
