(S04E06) "We both have skeletons, which means we both get a closet to keep them in." - Dexter on him and Arthur Mitchell, the Trinity Killer

Now that Dexter and his faithful followers have discovered Trinity's true identity as a family raising, student teaching, hymn congregation leading all around nice guy, it's made him twice as creepy. The fact that he can turn such a blind eye towards causing so much painful mayhem and in the blink of that eye pretend that everything is all rainbows and jellybeans twists my spine into a monkey fist. John Lithgow has not only reached into the bloody depths of this depraved character, but he's done a marvelous job of walking around in his skin, both figuratively and (I sure hope not) literally.

Now that Dexter is on the hunt, he seems more reserved, held back and less willing to pounce on his weakened prey. I'm sure part of him feels the need to put this man out of our misery and avenge the attack on his sister, but now he sees him as a mentor, a role model, a zen-like Yoda who can teach him how to strengthen his mask while he's doing the bidding of his "Dark Passenger." But will this moment of philosophy for madmen drag things down to a screeching halt?

The Rita element has picked up a smidge. Last week's revelation that the wifey discovered Dexter has been hiding his old apartment from her turned some heads, but not in the right direction. It seemed that things would deteriorate into a never-ending sequence of marriage counseling and endless talking about feelings and the truth. Some even wished that Rita herself would just disappear. But the follow-up gave her a real sense of purpose. Rita was no longer a diversion or an obstacle for Dexter. She became a full blown enemy and a damn good one, too.

You could just feel every one of those icy cold stares run down the back of your neck. Every sigh and look of utter disgust sent tiny toothpicks flying into your heart. That's because they weren't just directed at Dexter. They were directed at me and you. This episode not only helped you feel pity for Dexter, but utter disgust for Rita as she stared into the camera and gave him that look that every wife gives their husband when they know they should know something, but know that they don't know it and want to make them know it without actually telling them what they should know. Thank God I'm not married.

Speaking of relationships that should never have started in the first place, the highest point of excitement was the end of Laguerta and Batista's relationship. Their slow and heart-wrenching breakup was sad, but it was like watching a couple breaking up that you had hoped would break up for a long time. My face might have been solemn and comforting, but the synapses in my brain were throwing a huge going away party.
