Vampire sheriff Godric was one of my favorite characters from True Blood's second season. As played by Allan Hyde, Godric was a wise, sensitive and progressive bloodsucker who felt compelled to atone for his sins and for the sins of his people. Last time we saw the peaceful vamp, he was bursting into flame on top of a Dallas high-rise. "That's too bad," I thought at the time. "I really liked that guy."
Did anyone else feel the same way? If so, head after the jump for some spoilery news that's sure to make you smile.
It looks like we might see more of Godric in True Blood's third season. E!'s Kristen says the show's writers are considering exploring Godric's 1,000-year history with Eric though flashbacks.
This sounds like a great idea. I'd love to see how the wicked and feral Godric we saw in last season's flashback became a stoic and merciful leader. And I'd love to see Eric in the role of naïve student learning from one of the oldest vampires on the show.
What do you say, True Blooders? Do you want to see Erik and Godric's story play out in season three?

That would be pretty cool if they kept him in the flashbacks. You scared me with the title of the post, I DO NOT want them bringing back characters who died in the books for unnecessary reasons. It would be nice if we could see more about him and Erics past, thats one thing the books didn't seem to explore.

I say Yay. I loved the Godric character, but definitely don't want them to go the Heroes route in which no one ever really dies -

I saw the title of this post and about lost my mind. I was so excited. Godric was an extremely interesting character quite possibly my favorite of the series. He gave me so much to ponder and I thought his exit was heartrending and beautiful. That made me hesitate. As much as I would love to see Godric as a central character, I'm glad they'd only be doing flashbacks, otherwise it would cheapen his decision and his words. I cannot wait for season 3 and for more of Allan Hyde. He seems extremely talented and I congratulate him on his splendid work.

They tried, it failed, they tried again, and no one wanted to go beyond the pilot. It's time to let go.

Well, there is a movie in the works starring Johnny Depp, though it keeps on getting delayed.

Yes! I am soo happy that there may be Godric flashbacks. One of the most exciting things I've heard about season 3! Godric is one of my top favorite vampires, right up there with Eric and Pam!

The problem is True Blood is not a flashback show. Yes there have been a few here and there, mostly to introduce a character, but there's already so much going on and so many characters in the show, I don't see the point of flashbacks just for the sake of flashbacks. Yeah a half-hour flashback watching Erik and Godric kick ass in the 12th century would be entertaining, but totally contrary to the purpose of the show and ultimately a pointless distraction. We know Godric is Erik's maker, we know how they met, and we know that Godric is now dead. Unless something else happened in Eric's life that involved Godric that is very significant and highly relevant to a current plotline, there's no point in having a Godric flashback (especially if the only reason is because some TB fangirls found the Godric character all cute and cuddly).
Frankly I thought he was a weak character that didn't fit into the show. He grew more civilized and human over his 1000 year life, while all the evidence on the show about the maturation of vamps is directly to the contrary - they become less human ("lose touch with humanity") the older they get.

to jon: godric wasnt even in the book so when u start talking about it know what your talking about. The character in the books name was godfrey and he wasnt eric maker in the book either. However, i liked godric alot and it is ashame they had him be killed off and it will be cool to see him in flashbacks.

He wasn't in the book. It was another vampire held in the church. HBO has totally ruined the books. They only due a little here and a little there, but the books are soooooo much better.

I felt exactly he same....."That's a shame. I really liked him." Would like to see them explore some of his relationship with erik through flashbacks...regardless of whether it would be "contrary to the purpose of the show," or "a distraction." I don't feel that way. The show is character driven and Godrick was a very interesting character indeed. Way more than ERW's queen....snooze!

If this is true about bringing Alan Hyde back, I will sleep without the nightmares of sucking Alan Ball dry of blood. Since the airing with Alan Hyde I've tracked some of his Danish work....this guy is ( I can't find a words for it, except love, excited & I want to pick this guys brian apart, what ever he wants).
His "Awaking", he wrote, directed and acted in, had 3 weeks to get it to the Oregan Film Festival. He did and won. Alan with all my love you have a great future open to you.

well i think if they keep the 3rd season close to the story line of the book and bills maker is the one that kidnaps him it would make sense for eric to think of his maker and the relationship they had

Did anyone read the books? Godric was a child molester and couldnt stop killing children and that was a main reason he wanted to die.... he's not that great...

Brian, I completely agree with you! Godric was a sick man and admittedly so, making his desire for death even more understandable. The show has strayed so far from the book that it really did start to become ridiculous....overindulging in the Maenad storyline last season is a perfect example. Can we please stay within the story? It is sooooo much better than reflecting on what is really unnecessary. Plus, reflecting on his history with Eric? Please, he and Eric weren't even involved in the book! Godric was a child molester, he helped get other vampires kidnapped and killed by the Friends of the Sun, and he wasn't the sheriff of anything! Like I said, can we get the story back on topic, please!?

Oh I would LOVE it if they brought Godric back. I was an avid lover of the book series way before it became a hit HBO series and the thing I love about the show is that it doesn't follow the books all the time. Just when I think to mysef"Oh, I know what happens next!!!', turns out, I don't!
