Oprah's real time with Christian Siriano and Adam Lambert

christian_soriano_bravoIf things don't work out for Project Runway winner Christian Siriano in the fashion biz, he might want to consider a full-time gig as a talk show diva. As the number one guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show today, Christian was fierce, fun and oh-so-comfy that at times I thought Ms. O had her own little Ed McMahon or Andy Richter... but with a lot more style.

Oprah devoted the show to reality TV and the big get was Adam Lambert, the runner up in last season's American Idol. You wouldn't have guessed he was second place based on the assertion by Oprah that he was the top choice of her viewers when asked which reality star they wanted to see on her show.

I know I'm cynical, but I think it was planned. Adam's album is coming out on November 23 and there's already been lots of buzz, including the CD cover.

What was really funny is that Adam had the same hair style as Christian, which is the Kate Gosselin hair! Talk about your hot tranny mess. The other running theme through the show were teases. Oprah teased the Lambert appearance. Christian teased his big reveal for the viewers and watchers. Every segment ended with a tease. (Hmm... perhaps that connected to the hair business after all?)

I was not overly fond of the cake off. I love Duff Goldman of Ace of Cakes, but I knew those Chicago Cake Girls were going win when they re-created Oprah's face in cake. For me, the cake shows are just not that fascinating.

Christian's segments -- he had more than one -- included a Skype call to Heidi Klum. She yapped about her new baby and then Seal stuck his head in. The highlight was Christian's fashion show; Heidi watched via her remote feed, too. His designs were fabulous, as he might say.

Adam's Skype talk was a yawn. He's excited about the new CD, but sitting on a couch and talking via remote was... distancing. It's hard to generate the same kind of connection a guest and a host have when they're inches apart.

The Randy Jackson section felt like an afterthought and a way for him to promote his MTV dance program, America's Best Dance Crew. He really didn't say much about American Idol -- season nine coming up -- except to say they miss Paula but they're thrilled to have Ellen DeGeneres on the show.

Finally, the fierce one returned to announce that since he's designed shoes and handbags for Payless Shoes, in all the U.S. and Canadian stores from now till the end of day Friday, everything in Payless would be 50% off with a coupon from Oprah.com. If you're reading this now, stop reading, print the coupon and go out now!
