The Goode Family -- the Mike Judge show ABC did everything it could to kill -- has a new home at Comedy Central.According to Daily Variety, the cable network will air all 13 episodes of the animated comedy that ABC canceled last summer. That's good news for fans of a show ABC buried in its line-up -- moving it around like a pea under a nutshell until it finally put the Goodes out of their misery.
At the time, the show was embraced by fans of Beavis & Butthead and King of the Hill as a worthy sardonic successor to Judge's animated quiver. But, critics often attacked its mockery of political correctness and progressive politics. Some pundits went so far as claiming such a show was inappropriate in the era of Obama.
In other words, it's only censorship when your side is the one being silenced.
The silly thing is that The Goode Family was never one-sided in its comedy or its politics. It was never a show that existed to mock hippies. It was a show about the absurdity of any one political view. It was a show about a family struggling to find happiness in a confusing time.
Now, the show will see the light of day again on Comedy Central. There's no word yet if Comedy Central would back additional episodes, but the network did pick up new episodes of Futurama when it gave that show fresh life.

This comment is not based in any way on the political outlook of the show, just its entertainment value. I gave it a try and found the dialogue awkward (unlike previous Judge shows), the characters boring (unlike previous Judge shows), and the jokes unfunny (ditto). Did it actually get better after the first episode?

Just to clear your entire opinion of the show is based on the Pilot. (an episode for most series which focused exclusively on introducing characters and a basic framework of the show)
How about watching a couple more eps. before writing off the whole show?
(Hopefully you're not the same type that critisizes TV execs for cancelling "good" shows before giving them enough time to find an audience)

Actually. I think it DID get better. I didn't like the first episode, but I was watching it on ABC.com's episode viewer, so it had a buffer of three episodes when I checked it out. And the first episode was absolutely the weakest.
But our tastes might differ, Yet, just the same, it did get a lot better.

As I recall it was only 12 episodes that were shown. But I liked them and was sad to see ABC "Fox" the show the way they did, ensuring its cancellation.
Hopefully Comedy Central can work out a deal to get more new eps made.
I never quite got the retarded genius aspect of the Ubuntu though. And the fact that no redneck enemy neighbors (Dale Gribble living next door) existed was also a missed opportunity IMO.

The show did improve after the first episode and it was really starting to grow on me. (This is coming from a diehard liberal, by the way.) A few elements didn't work (a previous blogger cited the "retarded genius aspect of Ubuntu" as one of those, and I agree), but the wrinkles could have been ironed out in time, had the show been allowed to continue.
