There's something to be said about a jingle that gets in your head and you can't forget it. "I am stuck on Band-Aids, so Band-Aid's stuck on me..." remains imprinted on my brain to this day (and did you know that Barry Manilow wrote that?). Well, there's a current commercial that has a song that's wormed it's way into my noggin, only I can't stand it. Before I tell you more and present the video, I want to go on record saying that I like the idea of the ad. It's a collaboration between Dove and Wal-Mart, presenting real women. The thought is that there is Real Beauty in real women, not models or celebrities, but just everyday people.
It's a wonderful notion and I think there's a lot of truth in that. It would have been nice if Dove had not Photoshopped the print ads for the campaign which prettied up the real women, but it was still a noble effort.
But back to the ad, I'm not annoyed by the commercial as a whole. I like the ladies; they look great and very personable. There singing (assuming it's them) is awful, but it's that damn song. It goes like this:
"Do your eyes sit wide?
Does your nose go to the side?
Does your elbow have a crinkle?
Do your knees have a wrinkle?
Does your chest tend to freckle?
Do you have a crooked smile?
Do your eyes sit wide?"
Does your nose go to the side?
Does your elbow have a crinkle?
Do your knees have a wrinkle?
Does your chest tend to freckle?
Do you have a crooked smile?
Do your eyes sit wide?"
And that tune, yeech. It's like a nursery rhyme, which might have been the intent, but it's like nails on a chalkboard. Anyway, if you've avoided seeing it on TV, here's the commercial for your perusal.
What do you think, does the song bother you as much as it bothers me?

Whenever I see that commercial it makes me think of another song, and I hope I am not alone on this...Do your B**bs hang low. The entire time the commercial is playing in my mind I hear that song instead. Might make me sound like a naughty teenage boy (which I am far from being), but some things stick with you for life.

The reason it sounds similar to a nursery rhyme is because it is one -- or a children's song at least. It's a remake of the classic children's song "Do your ears hang low", the original lyrics of which are as follows:
Do your ears hang low?
Do they wobble to and fro?
Can you tie them in a knot?
Can you tie them in a bow?
Can you throw them o'er your shoulder
Like a Continental Soldier?
Do your ears hang low?
Not to say the tune is not annoying and repetitive -- most children's songs are. It just seems as if you haven't ever heard this one before the commercial.

it was one of my mom's favorite songs to sing to the little ones "do your ears hang low" its an old song, and one many a mom sings to her little ones , silly nonesensical and cute.
The ad seems to be pointing out women's flaws but ends with the impression that each of those women is content and happy with their subtle differences..
Strangely enough I like it , maybe cause mom sang it.(the original version obviously)

To answer your question... "What on earth does that mean -- do your eyes sit wide?" Some people have eyes that are set very far apart. My only problem is with the one woman in the commercial, I think she is the doctor. I am not trying to be mean but at first glance she is kind of scary looking. I can never remember what her line of the song is because I am dumb-struck by her teeth and nose. I know her line of the song is not about her nose or teeth (I think it is her hair?) but they are so obvious shouldn't they have had her sing about them?

Actually, I like this ad, it's cute. I've got a 10 year old daughter & I'd much rather her see women like this than photo shopped anorexic models on tv.

It is a great commercial. I bet the people who put it together make a lot of extra money this year.
I love the up beat happiness of the women and the song.

I love it. There are more "ordinary women" in this world today that need to be celebrated. Catchy tune I just wish I could get all the parts remembered

I'm sorry, it seems like commericals get longer and more obnoxious and advertisers (mistakenly) believe we will buy the product if their jingle is lodged in our brain. I found this commerical insulting....I change the channel whenever it comes on...that is my only defense against the drivel that passes as advertiing these days...if it weren't for the remote i would not watch tv. I try to minimize my exposure to crap.
