(S06E05) "You seem like a nice lady. Don't you ever feel guilty?" - The maid to Bree
This week's episode was pretty much what I call a "filler episode". Yes, there was some progress in the storylines but if someone missed this week's installment of Desperate Housewives, they won't be totally lost next week.
Even if "Everybody Ought to Have a Maid" wasn't the best DH episode so far this season, I did enjoy the dialog between Bree and the maid concerning Bree's affair with Karl, as well as Julie's return home after two weeks in the hospital, especially since her return meant that she would run into Nick eventually.
Julie and the Bolens
Julie has always been one of my favorite characters, so seeing her coming back home was a relief. I didn't expect Nick to come see Julie so soon, especially during the welcome back party. Someone, other than Danny who knew the truth, could have overheard them talk and who knows what would have happened next.
It looks like Nick still has some feelings for Julie but she seems to be done with him. I can't wait to learn more about how they met, how they ended up together, why/how they ended things, what Julie knows about the Bolens, etc. She knows that Dominic changed his name to Nick, so maybe Julie knows more about the Bolens' past, why they moved and changed their names, etc. If Angie doesn't know about Julie, what will Angie do when she discovers that someone on Wisteria Lane knows that they are not the Bolens? We've seen Angie be creative to take care of things, I'm sure she can "take care" of Julie, too. Of course, as some of you suspect, Angie may already know and she tried to strangle Julie...
Angie is a great manipulator, but so is Nick. He played Danny like one would play the violin so to get Danny to shut up about his affair with Julie. I'm pretty sure Nick was right when saying that Angie would take the affair better than learning that Danny knew about it and didn't tell her.
We didn't learn much about the Bolens this week except that the gun is registered under their real names... It wouldn't surprise me that the gun resurfaces at one point and may be part of the Bolens' downfall. Why ensure that we learn it's registered under their real names if it's not to reuse that info later?
Bree and the maid
As I've said in my intro, I loved the dialog between Bree and the maid. Bree is all about appearances and she hates having people think she is flawed. It's always fun seeing Bree try to justify herself and bring herself back up when appearances are not up to her standards.
That last talk Bree and the maid had will surely play a key role next week or in the weeks to come in how Bree handles her affair. As the maid told Karl, she turned on a light... in Bree's head. Orson is not the best husband out there and I've written before how I want him gone since he's served his purpose. However, even if flawed, Orson is helpful lately and does show that he is still in love and wants his marriage to work. Bree may not love him anymore but she should try to end things properly so not to end up alone as the maid.

The others
I didn't care much about the other storylines. It's not like we didn't know Gaby isn't the best mother out there. Just this week, she sent all the other parents home but Susan saying she didn't need their help with the kids. First mistake: sending all the parents home during a kids' party. Second mistake: thinking Susan will be helpful in supervising kids. Third mistake: drinking with Susan inside the house while the kids where outside unsupervised -- the clown and the monkey owner don't count. No matter, Gaby loves her kids and does try to be a better mom. No mother can be perfect.
As for Lynette's storyline, blah. The only upsides were seeing more of Orson Bean and hearing McCluskey plead her case to Lynette to get Roy a job as handyman to keep her love-making at its peak!! Orson Bean's character of Roy reminds me so much of his role on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. Both characters are flawed and cranky old men that we love even if we would like to slap them at times for their ways of thinking and what they say. I hope Roy sticks around a bit longer.
The ladies are right, Katherine needs help. I don't think she'll pull a Mary Alice, but she is, as I've pointed out last week, on the right path to end up in a mental institution. I can buy that Tom asked Katherine to replace him on neighborhood watch -- although it wouldn't surprise me if we learn that she convinced him to give her his shift -- but she was way too close to Susan's house... Maybe she thought Mike was there and wanted to "watch the game" with him again... or maybe she wanted to flirt with him as she did at the meeting (see picture above).
I don't think anyone should get shot, but Katherine sort of got what she deserved for the lies, the stalking, and the flirting she's been doing. What will she do next?!

What I want to know is why Bree didn't speak up about witnessing Katherine skulking around Susan's house to "watch the game" with Mike when everyone gathered to see what happened after hearing the shot. It would have definitely taken some of the wind out of Katherine's sails and let the neighborhood know that she's bordering on crazy.

I loved the talk that Tom had with the old guy. It put explained a lot of why Tom let's Lynette treat him the way that she does. Tom's not clueless, he loves her, and this is his way of taking care of her.

two scenes that made the episode were with Bree and the maid, and tom and roy. for a "filler" episode, i thought it had the most in terms of character substance.

I think the talk Tom had with Roy was very insightful and enjoy that after so many seasons we still get these great little insights into why some characters are the way they are. In a way Tom is actively being passive because that's how he knows he can take care of his wife.
I'm not too sure how I felt about Gaby's story this week. I think it was a little bit in bad taste to include the chimp attacking the clown because of the whole "Travis the Chimp" real world news story and how vicious that attack was. I didn't like how light they made it.
I agree that Bree's talk with the housekeeper was a great scene. And I think the writers really hit the nail on the head about the mixed emotions that Bree must be going through. I want Orson to be the man that he was when they first got together. He used to be so compatible with her.

Honestly, I thought Tom's talk was okay, but there should have been more. I would have liked to see him tell Roy that he doesn't know them well enough to judge and the he let's Lynette control me total garbage. Come on, how does a guy who gets the large family he wants, gets to go to college like he wants, gets to open the pizzeria he wants, gets the wife to give up her carrer to raise the kids say his wife controls him with a straight face? I've never seen someone supposedly so whipped catered to by his so called bully so much. He rolls with it-Sure because it's a bird house and window box and he doesn't give a rat's rear end. With the stuff he really wants he pouts until he gets his way.
