So, tell me why you're watching Glee. Entertainment Weekly put the Fox musical/drama/comedy on it's cover this week, calling it "TV's Happiest Hour." With around 8 million people tuning in each week and iTunes sales of songs featured on the show going through the roof, there's no denying that Glee has turned into a barely contained phenomenon.EW says it's "snarky, theatrical and totally addictive." All very true, but I watch for one reason: this show makes me happy. Nothing I've seen on TV in the past few years, much less this season, puts a grin on my face like these high school kids earnestly singing and dancing. I mean, come on. Did you see Puck's rendition of "Sweet Caroline"?
The mini-musical doesn't appeal to everyone, but it's been a long time since there's been a creative alternative to the hours of prime-time programming devoted to life-and-death medical dramas or gruesome true crime procedurals. These all have their place, but hardly provide a true escape from the drudgery of everyday worries.
Glee is a happy zone. It's a modern day Busby Berkley number, though with less showgirls. I know, it's corny, but maybe loving Glee is all about "opening up your heart to joy." I use it as a weekly reminder that even with the constant stress we're all under, there's a place for joy in our daily lives, as well, even if it comes to us in tiny bits of song and dance. This is a lesson sorely missing from the current TV landscape.
So, readers tell me why you're hooked on Glee. Is it the singing? The dancing? Lea Michele's short skirts? Jane Lynch? Mark Salling's bad ass guns? Whatever the reason, leave it in the comments so I don't feel like the only sappy one.

Took Glee off the DVR 2 weeks ago. Loved the kids, music, Sue, the principal and such but could not stand the pregancy/fake pregnancy plotline. To me, it just stopped the program in its tracks. There are many other ways keeping our star-crossed adults apart than using that. Also, it just seems like bad writing as well which is strange because they get Sue so right with her quips.

Sadly the overproduced music and bad plot lines ruined the promise displayed by the first episode.

Not watching it anymore. After a few episodes, I decided I'd cleaned up enough vomit in my living room.

Lea Michele's miniskirts.
Every Matthew Morrison song/dance
Sue Motherfucking Sylvester
Quinn, who looks more beautiful the sadder she is
The undying hope that at some point they'll give Kevin McHale something to say or do.

Lea Michelle and her mini-skirts!!
Mainly because it only reminds me of her in Spring Awakening. You know what scene I'm talking about....

I like the show as a hulu based distraction, but the songs are painful. I don't understand how anyone could like the songs when they sound so overproduced, fake, bland and WHITE. They even make Sweet Caroline seem whiter somehow. And I'm a white person! Honestly, that "Thong Song" was nearly identical to the "Thong Song" in "Undercover Brother"...
If they got rid of the music, it would be a 30 minute comedy satire...and it'd be a lot better. But the way it is, I just fast forward through those annoying songs.

The first episode was magical -- gleeful, optimistic, etc. Whenever the show gets back to that, I love it.
Jane Lynch's Sue Sylvester is a perfectly executed foil to the show's exuberant cheer.
Unfortunately, they lose me now and again. For instance, when you have a teacher singing a song to 15-yr old characters about having sex with them. Or the painfully uninteresting immorality of most of the love quadrangle (Ken Tanaka being the sincere exception.)

C'mon naysayers - this show is fabulous, even if the numbers are "white." The cast is very talented and it is truly a breath of fresh air on television. (Mark Salling and Cory Monteith are added bonuses!) I havent loved a TV show this much since I was a teenager in the 90s and had a thing for Dean Cain on "Lois & Clark." Glee. simply. ROCKS.

You're right. Because it makes me happy. In fact most of the NEW shows I'm checking out this year are comedies like Glee, Modern Family, Cougar Town, etc.
Sue Sylvester obviously is reason numero uno and while some of the songs ARE overproduced and way too auto-tuned, there really are some performances that are quite heartfelt and very well done.

I watch Glee because I see a lot of myself there. Music is the thing that touches me the most, and they know to touch me with their music.
It sounds stupid, but this is how I feel.
I feel like my dreams are nearer than I thought.
Plus, Tina's like a "female" me =)

I so look forward to Wednesdays so I can see what songs are going to be on Glee tonight. I agree that Quinn's character just becomes more beautiful the sadder she gets. Jane Lynch is absolutely perfect!
They need to end this fake pregnancy storyline. It is the one off-key note of the show.

Glee reminds me of my high school and I was just like the character that Lea Michelle portrays. It's fun to watch because it's like watching someone be you on TV. It's also fun because of the music. It doesn't come across as cheesy, just as fun. I love all the characters at WMHS because they are just like the people from my high school. It's hilarious and a scary accurate representation of our high school dynamic.

I watch it because it is hysterical. I love most of the dialogue, the musical numbers etc. I love that there is a lot of heart in this show under some of the weirder things that happen.
But the biggest reason... I won't lie. Sue. She absolutely makes me laugh so hard. Love that character.

I just like it because it's bright and fun...we all watch it at my job . My sister rarely sits down and watches TV but this is the only show she watches...as for the pregnancy storyline..it's not enough to make me go...arg I hate this..blah blah..I think it's silly also, but not that big of a deal. I don't mind the lip syncing thing either at least we all know they can actually sing.

Sue Sylvester is the funniest character on TV in a VERY long time. And I am and always have been a theater freak/ geek. It speaks to me. I LOVE GLEE.

It's one of the few shows that actually makes me laugh out loud. I like the developing triangles/quadrangles. Sue is a blast! I love the camera angles, the narrations, the confessions, and that short sound right before the commercials. Lea Michelle is awesome, plus it seems if most of the cast can actually sing.
That said, please let us hear the cast really sing - no studio correction or enhancements. Also, get the pregnancy issues resolved - fast.

I really like parts of the show, but for me it is so uneven, that it's hard to stick with each week.
And Will is written and played like such a dufus with no real depth, I have a hard time watching his overzealous exuberance.
Also, the auto-tune, over produced musical numbers are painful.
Also, drop the stutter. It's so bad.
Sue Sylvester of course kills.

There are moments of real glee on the show in the musical numbers, true. And I like episodes like this week's, where most of the cast acted like human beings, much better than the ones where everyone is a cartoon (especially Sue). The white man rapping stuff is awful, as well as not my musical taste. I do like Morrison in the non-rap numbers, though. Kurt is by far my favorite character. I'm glad they added some depth to Puck and to Sue, although it seems like with Sue they're wiping the slate clean on that.
The horrible, awful, when-are-they-killing-her-off-already wife-fakes-pregnancy plotline has to go, and soon. It drags down the show into silly soap opera. I'm also hoping they resolve the phony "marriage" thing between Emma & the coach. And tone down her clean fetish. All things that this week's show did--I hope they keep it up and don't turn back into a live-action cartoon again.
What I find extremely odd is that the actor playing Finn is 27, only 4 years younger than Matthew Morrison, playing his teacher. Puck is also 27. Rachel is 23. Chris Colfer, who is Kurt, my favorite character, is 19, which is at least in the ballpark for high school, although still at least a couple years (maybe four years!) older than his character's supposed to be.

It's a little uneven and nonlinear. A lot goes on in that hour. The fake pregnancy storyline makes me angry to watch. Some of the characters are inconsistent.
BUT, I do love the musical numbers (even though it bothers me a little it's so obviously lip-synced) and some of the over-the-top-what-the-hell ness of it. Also, these kids actually kind of look like high schooolers.

Glee's success just makes me even more furious that Pushing Daisies (and every other Bryan Fuller show) got canceled. PD made me way more happy than Glee does and was a better version of the light-hearted-but-still-edgy-and-WAY-more-creative-than-your-average-network-show.
