The contestaints await their judgment from Tyra
(S13E07) I love watching episodes of America's Next Top Model where contestants think they are amazing and crash and burn by the end of the show. This week, the challenge for the would-be models was the dreaded CoverGirl commercial.

The past few episodes have really become "Let's root for dorky Nicole, dyslexic Laura, and droopy-eyed Jennifer." They don't get bitch edits and even Rae finally realized how cool Nicole's dork-chic can actually be. Sundai and Erin complain about everything, while Brittany and Rae are forgettable. Since all three are favorites, I doubt that Tyra will pick them to win.

The girls are sent to CBS Studios. They had a challenge on the set of The Insider where they interviewed 90210's Jessica Lowndes. While several did well (Jennifer, Brittany, Rae), it was all about the bad girls. I was mortified for Laura as she blanked and said "uh" for a minute, but she was topped by Nicole as she tried to incorporate her transition questions and asked the 20-year-old Jessica if she was ever pregnant. Suffice to say, neither won; Erin did and she took Rae and Jennifer to bask in the wonders of a photo-opportunity. Anyone who wants to see Erin's face can check the December/January issue of Seventeen.

To continue with the camera-work, the girls are provided with a box. Inside were several CoverGirl products, a pen, paper, and a stopwatch. They were given the night to write their own scripts. After a few minutes, Erin announced that she's done and throws a one person party. Laura worries about the dyslexia kicking in during the taping and Nicole stays up later than all the girls to practice and time herself.

When the girls arrived, they were greeted by Teyona. She reads from a script about how amazing CoverGirl crap is and comes off really fake when talking to the girls. She models well, but I would never be convinced to buy any of her products. Nicole is the first to go and not only am I surprised that Jay admitted to liking her dorky/awkward factor. She magically turns on in front of the camera.

My own personal gripe is how she pronounces the T in "Brighten." Sundai has never impressed me and channels an announcer. She reminds me again of Season 6's Dani, a girl with a weird accent. Jennifer does well speaking, but looks like her neck was an accordion. Laura method acts and even with dyslexia she did better than some of the girls.

Brittany comes off as robotic and Nigel does a really funny robot dance to display her ineptitude. Rae continues to blank and gets upset. She falls short in her delivery and does a really fake smile. Erin is last and after all the "I'm amazing!" and "I'm so ready!" that this episode provided earlier, she blanks, crashes and burns. She can't stop crying and the makeup crew has to dab more foundation on her face. Nigel even tries to take her off the set and have her walk off the nerves. It doesn't work.

We get to judging and our guest judge is Kim Kardashian. Luckily, she is only judging girls on how they look on the camera. Now if the whole thing was shot in night-vision, she'd have expertise. Most of the girls get positive commentary. Sundai is called out for her weird announcer voice. Rae's video channels Season 7's Caridee: pretty looking but didn't speak English. Erin breaks down again in front of the judges and said that she was "frustrated." I guess she wasn't so ready.

After the judges deliberate, Tyra announces that the winner is Jennifer. She is followed by Nicole, Brittany, Sundai and Laura. The bottom two are Rae (doesn't stand out) and Erin (wasted the time and money with her crying). Tyra believes that Erin has more potential and she's safe. Rae is happy she can see her daughter and appreciates getting a taste of the model world. Seeing that Erin crashed and burned I hope she can fix that hubris that she built up.

Next week, Tyra "quarantines" the girls' house to tell them that they are off to their international destination. Did anyone even remember that Rae was still here or Brittany existed? Leave comments below.
