I think Gary Unmarried might just be the new Yes, Dear. Remember that show? It lasted for several seasons even though no one talked about, and just when we thought it had gone away it came back for several more episodes. I think this Jay Mohr comedy might be in the same category: it's a sitcom that, before you know it, is going to be in season five.
Gary has a new job as a radio host. Did you watch it? Is this show any good? Is it an ignored comedy gem we should all be watching? It is produced and directed by James Burrows, after all. I watched the first two episodes and it's not terrible, but it just seems to be a lesser sitcom.

The first season was edgier, had more laughs. This season is more tepid, like they're playing it safe or something. I'll continue to watch but it's not one of my "must see" shows anymore.

I like this show and I like Jay a lot. I think it has been at least three different concepts since the show started with Ed B.Jr. The kids are older so there is more to work with. Putting Gary in a work place with new characters is another re-invention.
This show is at its best when Gary and his ex-wife are sparring. Can't remember the wife's real name but its nice to see her get a second season of a series. She has been in a ton that never made it to the end of season one.
Jay Moore has either been medicated or neutered because he has lost all the hyper kinetic energy he used as his shtick in his younger days and I like IT!
CBS Wed. from 7-8pm here in Texas is one of my fav. TV blocks with Gary following Crazy Christine.

There is one thing that will drive you crazy about this show: When he's talking with his ex-wife, listen to how many times she says "Gary" in every conversation. It's unbelievable! Nobody uses another person's name that much in real life!

It seems odd that you review "Gary UnMarried" and do not focus on other, superior (subjective, I know) shows that need more viewers.
I like Jay Mohr but this show is average at best. Why not do more articles and actual REVIEWS (as opposed to conjecture) about good shows like "Modern Family," "30 Rock," "The Venture Bros.," "Curb," "Colbert Report," or even "Tosh.0"?
I know some of the shows mentioned make headlines but there is usually very little (if any) actual discussion about the content. It seems like you are often posting headlines disguised as articles ripped from the AP Wire instead of reviewing or discussing actual programs. It's very frustrating reading about shows rather than the actual shows, if you know what I mean. And I don't want straight synopsis either. Just qualified writers discussing the merits and detriments of particular programs. It seems like there used to be a LOT more of that here.
Sorry I blew up.

Will, this is not a review of Gary Unmarried, it's an open thread for fans (or non-fans) to talk about the show.
As for the shows you mentioned we don't review, I'm not sure if you're a regular reader but we actually do review 30 Rock, Modern Family, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

I'm with a few earlier posters - the show was better last season when it was more about the relationship between Gary and his ex and the kids. So far this season it's more Gary-centric with the wife and kids being thrown in more as an afterthought.

No, this is not an undiscovered comic gem, it's a cliched, rote by-the-numbers sitcom. The cast is pretty good, but the material is not despite all the attempts to reboot the show to a funnier premise which can stick. It does have the benefit of being on during a rather lackluster night and hour of competition.
I assume the current sports-talk radio thing is inspired by Mohr who is a frequent guest/fill-in for Jim Rome's syndicated show.

Gary Unmarried? Really? With all of the cookie cutter cops, doctors and lawyer shows? All of the reality crap?
Gary Unmarried is an average sitcom with a few grins and the hot Paula Marshall, plus the really hot blonde chick that plays Gary's new boss. DVR worthy, yes.
A game changer? Nah. Everything doesn't have to be important. Silly entertainment works.

C'mon folks, this show is WAAAAY funny, the characters all stand on their own, and are each funny in their own right.
Last year Big Bang was the funniest thing on TV, this year, it hasn't caught its steam yet, but Gary has filled in just fine in its place!
I have no interest in someones idea of a "Modern Family" that is just digging deep to find somewhere to get ratings like most shows do at some point to gain a viewer or two, and 30 Rock is funny for those that think SNL is still funny.....it isn't, and that is just sad.
I look forward to this show every week, it is hilarious, and I hope it does stay around forever under the radar....as long as it stays, I could care less!
