It's People's Choice Awards time again

In this age where there seems to be an awards show every three weeks, is the
People's Choice Awards relevant anymore (if it ever was)? More than anything else, it seems like an award based only on popularity, which is why you get some really lame nominations and winners every year.
In the
Favorite TV Comedy category,
Gary Unmarried is nominated along with shows like
30 Rock,
The Office,
Chuck, and
How I Met Your Mother. In the
Favorite TV Comedy Actor category, David Spade is nominated.
The proof that it's only about popularity? In the
Favorite TV Drama category,
Mad Men and
Dexter aren't even nominated. They're listed in a
Favorite TV Obsession category, which is something, I guess, though it seems like a category designed just so they can list the critically-acclaimed shows and not leave them out.
Breaking Bad isn't there at all. You can write in your own choice if it's not on the list.

I don't know how the nominations for the PCAwards are done, but I do know that Gary Unmarried is *funny.* I'm guessing (just a guess) you don't actually watch the show, but choose to knee-jerk slam the show. If it finds its legs, the show will be up to par with the best of Raymond. (that may not be your speed but if it is it's worth giving it a chance).
