NBC just sent me a series of photos showing the interviews that will be conducted during the network's "A Woman's Nation" series. As part of the series, NBC, CNBC and MSNBC personalities will interview each other about "the state of women in American life," as the accompanying press release has stated.
In most of the pics, the pairs -- Andrea Mitchell/Rachel Maddow, Kathie Lee Gifford/Jenna Bush Hager, Mika Brzezinski/Hoda Kotb, Natalie Morales/Suze Orman -- sit on the comfy chairs, legs crossed. As you can see from the pic above, Ann Curry, who's paired up with Meredith Vieira, wants to be different: shoes off, feet tucked under her rear end. She's really into this conversation, know what I mean? She's listening. She's comfortable.
It's so Ann Curry, isn't it?
Any regular watcher of Today knows what I'm talking about; the intense, almost fake sincerity that she oozes in every interview, whether it's with Brad Pitt, some kid who just got suspended for bringing a knife into school, or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. I've experienced the Ann Curry effect in person, and it seems just as off-putting up close as it does on TV. I'm guessing that's just her personality, but I wonder if she realizes how intense she comes off to people. I'd imagine that Larry David had folks like her in mind when he wrote about the "close talker" on Seinfeld.
Anyway, just for reference, here are the other four pics in the series:

I couldn't have said it better!!!!! Thank you. I wish all the people in Ann's profession would even come close to how she conducts herself, no matter what she is doing, or who she is interviewing. She is just a sincere, caring person who gives 100% in everything she does and always is a lady, which is more that I can say for Meridith, who is absolutely rediculous and embarassing, and silly! I feel sorry for her family!

Ann Curry and the crew of NBC fake journalists are unwatchable. Look how bad it is getting--they are interviewing each other and that's news. The first rule of journalism is report the news--not be the news. NBC=No Body Cares

I agree. Ann talks to the people with respect. She asks what we want to know but she will also ask how this has changed you...or what have you learned. She hugs or pats someone on the back if they are overcome. She is not cold or stiff or hateful. She is why I watch the Today show. She also teaches her children what she learns...like donating their hair to locks of love. She is a gift in this sometimes cold and curt world.

Ann Curry doesn't do interviews... For non celebrities she asks questions that result in the person having to answer in yes/no form.
Ann, we want to here the testimonial from them, not you.

I can't watch the Today Show anymore. I just can't stand Ann Curry - her style of interview and even just chatting with the others is so creepy and off putting. I would feel bad for her if she was just starting out and hadn't figured out how to make others comfortable, but come on - surely someone has said something to her by now!

I enjoy Ann Curry, I think she is sincere with her interviews and has compassion. As for her sitting in that position, shows she is comfortable with herself.

It's Mika I can't stand. Watch her on "Morning Joe" on MSNBC--all she ever does is read aloud verbatim from newspapers. She never has anything of substance to contribute to conversations, and she's easily overshadowed by male hosts on the program, by Andrea Mitchell, and by smart, articulate female commentators. I often wonder if her famous dad and his frequent appearances on the program insures Mika's job.

Ann Curry is so fine it doesn't matter to me how she comes across. I think she is smooth as silk. More power to her. And Meredith Viera is a cutie too, I don't care how old other folks think she is.

Personally, Ann Curry is one of the reasons I no longer watch the Today show. As was said previously, soooo sincere, so sober when she's asking a tough question that she just HAS to ask. So much so that she does come across as fake.

Anyone who talks to her after the Today show is over knows she is a "real" person. She cares, and does show a bit of her self when doing some interviews. She is not a fake!!

First of all, I think Ann Curry is one classy, intelligent lady. If you look at both Ann's and Meredith's body language (as compared with the other pairs) they are the only two who look as if they are talking in a living room and not a TV set. They work together daily and appear to be very comfortable with each other.
BTW, Oprah frequently mentions how she can't stand wearing heels and she has also removed her shoes on her show.

I agree...Ann Curry is the definition of class. To say that she is beautiful is a no brainer...with beauty intelligence and warmth Ann Curry is the whole package. Who is Joel Keller anyway...never heard of him? There is a difference Mr. Keller between true sincerity and fake sincerity. When I tell you I've enjoyed this article I am using the latter of the two.
