(S03E05) "Ah the Wedding March.... here comes the awkward pause." - Gossip Girl
As you can see from the picture above, Sonic Youth appeared on this very special episode of Gossip Girl, spoiled by the official episode title, and performed their 1986 single "Star Power."
As expected, Rufus and Lily hit a few bumps in the road before making the episode title come true. The episode also featured the return of Georgina, Scott, and Bree, which equals to blackmail, lies and drama. Three words that work very well in the world of Gossip Girl.
I'm surprised the network allowed Rufus and Lily to wed and discover who Scott really is in a non-Sweeps episode. Two major events that would have been great for November. However, having the wedding be in a non-Sweeps episode works well with the fact that Rufus wanted the wedding to be low key.
What wasn't surprising was that both Lily and Rufus got cold feet. They come from two different worlds, plus they had been at odds since Lily came back and learned of Serena's plan. But with the kids wanting them to wed and with Rufus being totally committed to making this work no matter the problems that may come their way, Lily came to her senses and married the only man she truly deeply loved.
It's understandable that Lily got cold feet and was scared of marrying Rufus since, as she pointed out, it would require her finally accepting to be loved and being with someone who didn't always see eye to eye with her. As a viewer, it was very frustrating seeing her go through all this doubt, since I knew how Rufus was committed and good for her. Thanks to the writers for the Scott reveal because without hearing what Scott had to say about his biological parents, Lily would have probably called the wedding off. I can't wait to see my second favorite couple -- Chuck and Blair are my favorites -- finally be husband and wife and try to make their family work, including Scott.
Once again this week, Serena impressed me. She totally rocked the planning of the wedding. Maybe her calling is to be a wedding planner or an event organizer?
The melodrama with Carter didn't entertain me much, mostly because I don't care for the character. I must admit that I didn't expect him to tell Serena the truth and face the Buckleys. As Chuck told Serena, Carter must really love her. Now that he faced the Buckleys, will Carter try to truly clean up his act to be with Serena?
Bree and Georgina are out of the picture. JoAnna Garcia said in interview that she would like to return to the show, and the way things ended, she could come back. She did use Nate to get to Carter, but Bree showed true emotions for Nate before she discovered Carter was in town. I wonder what Nate's grandfather will do now that Nate and Bree are no more. Even if Nate and his grandfather were not the best of friends, Nate dating Bree did give grandpa access to intel on the Buckleys.
As for Georgina, the character could return at some point. However, the actress stars in Mercy, so she is not available. Do you think the guy at the end is a real prince? Seeing Dorota hide next to Georgina to make sure everything went smoothly makes me think that Dorota somewhat pulled the strings here at Blair's request. What do we know about Dorota? Maybe the guy is really a prince, he was in town visiting, stopped to see Dorota who is either a relative or a past employee, and she asked him for help in getting rid of Georgina. Plausible theory? It was a pretty eventful episode for a non-sweeps month. It's like Gossip Girl wanted to do a big reset. I mean all the "extraneous" people had an exit: Scott, Georgina, Bree, and even Carter leaving us with the core group to deal with the newly married Rufus/Lily. Just weird.

i never liked Serena with Nate. i was always a Serena Dan shipper, but we shall see.
i felt like all of the stalling and making up surrounding the wedding was little contrived. idk, it just didn't feel organic to me.
is it just me, or is there a lot of sex going on?? the opening scene with everyone getting out of bed and eating breakfast with whomever they spent the night with was sort of weird. (except Chuck and Blair. i though that was a cute scene.) but really, is there anyone on this show with reasonable camera time who is not banging another character?

So much drama but I love a happy ending! Am I alone in thinking that GG has overdone several plots they've got going on right now? I mean. It's getting so ridiculous. Has anyone heard of Under The Arch? Apparently it is an online reality show that is similar to Gossip Girl. And since it is reality maybe the drama will be at a normal level.
