There's no doubt that among his peers, Tim Russert was one of the most respected broadcasters in the business. His sudden death from a heart attack in 2008 is still being felt, especially on Meet the Press where David Gregory has assumed the role of moderator but not made the show his own.

As a way of honoring Tim, the Newseum in Washington will create a Tim Russert exhibit. The Newseum is a journalism museum, and the curators have come up with a unique way to pay tribute to Russert: they will re-create Tim's NBC News office as it was on the day he died, June 13, 2008.

Just to make it clear that this is not a typical tribute, it might be of interest to note that the only other journalist to get this kind of treatment by the museum is Edward R. Murrow. The fact that Russert was on the Newseum's board of directors might have something to do with this honor, but you can't argue with the fact that for Meet the Press alone, Russert earned the recognition.

Russert took over the helm of Meet the Press in December 1991 and during his tenure, MTP became the most watched Sunday morning interview program in America. Tim was the longest serving moderator in the history of the show.

Tim's D.C. office was apparently a pretty colorful place, including lots of clutter and character. It was truly a reflection of the man. There were Buffalo Bills pennants – he was from upstate New York and rooted for the NFL team – autographed baseballs, books and magazines, Uncle Sam figurines and family photos. It sounds like the perfect way to honor the guy.

The exhibit will open on November 20 and remain on display through 2010.
