Does it seem like every other month there's some talk about the proposed Arrested Development movie? Perhaps that's because it's an idea that simply won't go away until the film is actually in theaters and fans of the Emmy-winning Fox series will finally be satisfied. Well, satisfaction may be just around the corner. The Arrested Development movie is really developing now. Creator Mitchell Hurwitz is at work on the screenplay -- working with co-executive producer James Vallely -- and the Bluths are creeping closer to big screen reality.
One of the biggest obstacles in getting this thing off the ground has not been a distributor, which usually trips up most features. No, Hurwitz has gotten Fox Searchlight on board and he will be directing, so that's not an issue. It's all those characters and the actors that have made them their own. You can't imagine an AD film without Jeffrey Tambor as George, Jason Bateman as Michael, Will Arnett as GOB, Tony Hale as Buster, or any of the other brilliant performers. Michael Cera's been the one actor who's been iffy, but now -- reportedly -- he's in.
The latest snag might be scheduling. Wouldn't you love to be the production supervisor finding time in all these stars schedules to get them together for an AD movie? Even though they might all be willing, the availability might be tough. The good news is that Hurwitz won't drop a character or two just to get the film done. He's committed to doing the film with all the characters.

Great comment. I'm going to keep my expectations low for this since I think they'll definitely be burdened with trying to appeal to non-fans and fans alike. On top of that, they'll have to find just the right mix of characters and inside jokes so that it doesn't feel forced, but that it's still classic AD.

cant imagine it will be very good. What AD really needed was more seasons, not a movie. It will fail. Why would anyone see a movie when no one watched the show?

Ari; Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Michael Cera have all had a lot more fame since the show, so it could draw in more of an audience.
And Jessica Walter could pull in the pre-teen girl crowd the show desperately needs thanks to her stint on 90210 :p

This has Serenity-type box office failure written all over it. At least AD got one and a half more seasons than Firefly.
