Ever since the announcement that All My Children was leaving New York, moving from the studios where it's been shot since the premiere in 1970, the big question among fans has been who will be staying with All My Children when it moves west... and who won't. The good news is that Susan Lucci has decided to stay with the show, even if she's not giving up her New York home. Susan, as well as costar Vincert Irizarry, have decided to commute to Los Angeles, with AMC arranging the schedule to make it more convenient for the veterans.
There's bad news, however, and it involves three big AMC stars. Thorsten Kaye, who plays Zach, has decided not to relocate. In addition, Beth Ehlers (Taylor) and Aiden Turner (Aidan) have been let go. In other words, they have not been invited to go west.
For Turner, the dismissal came as a shock. He was called into the executive producer's office and given his pink slip. It was story line dictated, the show claimed, but more likely it was a cost-cutting move. The same is probably true for Ehlers, however in her case it's more disheartening.
The five-time Emmy nominee joined AMC in 2008 after 21 years on Guiding Light with high expectations that her character, Taylor, would be a major player in Pine Valley. After over a year on the canvas, however, Taylor remains virtually unattached to any other characters and her story lines have never truly been integrated. In point of fact, she is an expendable character.
Ehlers could easily find another job -- she's that good -- but probably not for the kind of money she received before the recession hit. Here's a look at one of her better moments on AMC:
Finally, there's Thorsten Kaye. He's chosen not to move for personal reasons: his long-time partner, Susan Haskell, has a full-time gig on One Life to Live playing Marty. The couple are raising two children and he has expressed his desire to stay with his family. "I am not the kind of dad who wants to be 3,000 miles away from my kids," Kaye told the New York Daily News.
Rumor has it that Kaye's character, Zach, will be killed off. As for Aidan and Taylor, no word yet on how they'll be written out.
If it were up to you, what would you do about the Zach Slater issue since Kaye is definitely not the answer. Also, which character would you like to see return to All My Children?

I think its the biggest mistake to move All My Children to California. They are loosing great actors and actress and I think they will eventually lose the show.

That bums me out. I was wishing Beth had been allowed to come back to Springfield as Harley for a one day shot on Guiding Light. She probably couldn't do that and now, this.

don't u know duane guiding light is over :( i know it stinks but its forever gone like the general hospital spin off i think it was called Ryan's hope? well than again Ryan's hope is on soapnet right? so maybe guiding light will be put on there soon

Zach can't leave the show...he is by far my favorite. I have been watching the show for 38 years and have a difficult time when they change good characters or have them die off. Please Zach, stay.

Think Zach will be so missed. I know he is the main character in this series and moving to Calif. is the biggest mistake. I am already thinking of giving up this soap opera. I never watch soaps but some how I got hooked in this one.

I may top stop watching aftter 24 years if Zack leaves. He is the best actor in my opinion and brings excitement to the show every day. Think Erica should go along with David (evil) and Marissa (adds nothing). Annie has gone on way too long. Bring a closure to her and let her go. Love Aiden and more sure have been done with his story line.

couldnt agree with you more. theyve turned kendall into a slut. because the actress is sophisticated, she may be a "classy" slut, but a sluts a slut! she cheats on zack over and over and over......yet, he still has this undying love for her??? please! dont know 1 person who would ever take back anyone who cheats on them over and over like that. i wish kendall would get killed off already. i liked kendall only when sarah michelle gellar was in the role. since alicia took over, i never really cared for her in the role

I am giving up on AMC after25 yrs because it is repulsive that Susan Lucci a 60 something woman is kissing Cameron Matheson, this is far beyond being a cougar, it is repulsive!

You need to remember that Kendell is who make Zack who he is. I love both of them and I really hate to see Zack go! I just wish they would write one true love story into the show where no one or anything could come between their love. Instead of haveing them going from person to person that is just so dishearting and makes me so mad at the writers. I mean look at Angie and Jessie I love them, their love has lasted this whole time.

i also like kendall. but i so understand and admire thorston for staying were susan and his children are. hopefully one life to live will think about rehiring him as his old charater. that would be interesting-him, marty and john.
