If you had the return of Ugly Betty in your datebook -- or PDA -- for Friday, October 9, it's time for an update. ABC has moved the season premiere of Ugly Betty to October 16. It'll be a double shot of Betty, two-hours instead of just one. After the premiere, Ugly Betty will fall into its regular slot of Friday at 9 p.m.Unfortunately, a double dose of Ugly Betty won't be enough to pump up the ratings. ABC isn't doing Betty any favor by plunking it on Friday nights when there are less people watching TV. Sure, there are lower expectations, but what does it say about the network's faith in the show? Why not just put it on Saturday when even less viewers tune in? (What happened to programming for Saturday night anyway? Once upon a time, great shows actually thrived on Saturdays!)
The new season of Betty might be the last, and if that's the case, the producers should plan for it. The original Colombian telenovela only ran from 1999-2001 -- albeit a very different incarnation of Betty -- and actually had a conclusion. That Betty had a makeover and married her boss.
There have already been makeover signs for ABC's Ugly Betty, including the removal of her braces, but if she and Daniel were to wind up together, this season will have to deal with that. Up till now, they've been good friends and nothing more. Maybe that is the intent, especially since Molly died and Daniel turned to Betty for support in the last episode.
While that might make a sweet Hollywood ending, I envision the American Betty winding up strong and independent, fully realized and without the need of a man to validate her success. What do you think? How do you think Ugly Betty should end, if this is indeed the final season?

I know it's a rhetorical question, but ABC airs college football on Saturday nights and gets pretty good ratings from it.

ABC does seem to have a lack of faith in Ugly Betty. As for Fridays, I don't watch TV that night. I don't like any of the offerings, but w/ UB on Fridays, I'll be there! If this is the last season, I think Betty should get her make over, become successful (somewhat), and move out of her daddy's home. lol And yes, I don't think she needs a man to make her complete. imo

Great show.. but as usual, anything good gets cancelled. I make sure to DVR it every week and have all previous seasons saved. Hilarious writing, terrific acting and hysterical plot lines. Don't ruin "Betty" - keep her as outrageous as always.

Your headline is incorrect. Moved-up means sooner in this context. Moved-back would be appropriate.

This is one of the few show that I enjoy. If they remove anything, it should be those with all of the sex. Even the violence is easier to stomach than the ones with all the sexual scenes. And that includes those with the women showing too much of their breasts.

They must be trying to sink the show. I love it and am/was willing to watch it Fridays. For 3 weeks now they have aired the new "Flashback" show, which has not one , but TWO primetime spots (Thursday and Fri at 8:00 or 9:00p.m). Making it worse Friday is a repeat of Thursday but aired during primetime hours. Not to mention that they dont even bother to mention if UB is coming back or when etc. Every Friday, I need to search the to see if its on, now tonight.... I had to come to the net to see if the show was cancelled.....I am about to give up..Is the 16th the date, is she still on?? By the way,I watched 2 1/2 episodes of Flashback. The 1st two were ok, now it is sort of like reading a book where you've read the ending first or your spouse tells you how the movie ends. Why watch it? Nothing in the middle keeping me in suspense anyway. For instance, one guy in the show is supposed to be killed in March of 2010. Sooooo, you have to watch every week until March to see if it happens...? I for one gave up on it and hope that it does not continue to take up 2 primetime slots. It's boring.
