Why must Panasonic, Sony, Samsung and that lot constantly develop new technologies in an attempt to break my bank account? First it was things like flat television and high definition. Now, Panasonic is joining the ranks of other television manufacturers to produce a high definition television that can handle both 2D and 3D images. But this time, they're enlisting Hollywood to help them sell it.The idea is that Hollywood is producing more 3D films and this technology will enable the sale of 3D DVDs. It could even potentially be the feature to push Blu-ray sales to the level of regular DVDs (assuming it's only on Blu-ray).
Do we really need to be able to watch 3D movies at home? It sounds like one of those things that seem extraneous at first then once you have it in the home you have no idea how you lived without it. 3D television has been talked about for years now. We'll have to see if this is the event that pushes it more to the mainstream.

I hate anything 3D that requires the glasses since I can't ever see it. (something to do with depth perception?)

It doesn't specify if glasses are required, they are making 3D tv's that have the polarization on the screen.. it's kind of mind blowing, we've got a few demo units at my job

3d failed in the 80s and i hope it fails now. i still think this is just Hollywoods cheep ( for them not us ) way of trying to stop/slow down Bootlegging movies.

A 50" screen and 3D won't make a crappy script and poor acting look any better. So much of the stuff Hollywood puts out is such dreck that you'd be better off watching in on a 9" B&W TV with rabbit ears.

I wish the manufacturers would spend their R&D money on making larger tvs, better quality tvs, and cheaper tvs. 3d will be a huge flop. No one is going to want to sit in their homes with bulky 3d glasses on just to watch 3d tv. What happens when you have a party and have 20 people over? Only some get to watch it in 3d but everyone else has to do something else? 3d with glasses will always fail.

does this mean I'll have a to buy a new tv or wear one of those silly glasses? and then have to buy a new set of video cables at 500% markup?
how about they make a tv that doesn't blur when things move really fast on screen? I have a 5 year old hdtv and a 1 year old one, the newer one is better, but still not perfect.
