Las Vegas magicians and Bullshit! hosts Penn & Teller have inked a deal with ABC for an hour dramedy based on their real lives. To make it a little more interesting, they've added a fictional crime-solving element. Playing essentially themselves, Penn & Teller in the show will have a Las Vegas magician act at night. But during the day, they're "reluctant" detectives, solving crimes and saving lives.One of the big questions I have is if Teller will talk. I suspect that he won't, even though we all know he can. He doesn't during their work together because it creates more humor that way with Penn blabbing on and on. If this is supposed to be loosely based on their real lives, though, wouldn't he talk once the stage show ends?
However, since this is still a Penn & Teller "show," I'm sure he'll stay silent. There's a lot of sight gags they can do with a silent Teller and a chatty Penn. I've enjoyed the guest stints they've had on other shows, and think they're one of the most entertaining acts in the world, so I'm intrigued.

I have the perfect compromise: Teller will only talk to Penn when nobody else is around.

Actually, that is a pretty good compromise.
If it were based on real life, Teller would speak except when playing the role of Teller.. so he'd speak onstage when disguised/obscured, and offstage all the time. (Teller talks during certain bits during the P&T stage show, and he is more than happy to chat after the show).
My guess is that, since he's playing the character of Teller for the whole hour, he won't speak at all in the show.

These guys are'nt any good without somekind of controversy or something outrageous. They need to insult somebody.
The new format does not sound like it will work. Laurel and Hardy as detectives? Sounds dumb.

I'm not sure of this. Back in early '70s there was a show called "The Magician" with Bill Bixby playing the lead. It was cool at the time, but now I'm not sure this type of show can last. But who knows with Penn & Teller they may be able to pull this off.
