Survivor host Jeff Probst won Best Reality Host last night, but the big news was when he told reporters that The Amazing Race has already won for Best Reality Competition Show seven times and should take itself out of the running! So, is this just sour grapes or does Probst have a point? Maybe Probst should go on The Amazing Race and Phil Keoghan should go on Survivor and see who can last the longest.

I agree with that statement. The Amazing Race is an excellent show, but I think someone else should be nominated like Hell's Kitchen, Big Brother or The Biggest Loser. What, do shows have to be classy? Because I often see a lack of class on the part of the contestants on The Amazing Race...

Maybe Probst should take himself out of the running for best reality host. He is not even close to the host that Phil Keoghan is.

The fact that reality shows even get emmys bugs me.

Whats an Emmy? Is that the dead medium award? No one watches television on a T.V.
21st century.

First, most people still watch television on TV. I use the Internet if I can't watch it on TV.
Second, even it is were a "dead" medium, the programming still exists, and it still isn't a flim. The award still has a purpose.

How is it sour grapes, if he won best host? I think Amazing Race continues to win emmies as, although some of the contestants lightly drift toward the side of famewhore, the show doesn't blatantly appeal to that demographic. Rather, the host and show treat their contestants and the host cities with respect. I'm tired of trashy reality TV shows in which everyone is 'in' on it and no one learns anything, save the level of horror previously restricted to Maury or Jerry. I also like that the 'Amazing Race' attempts to teach its audience something about the cultures it visits.

Anita is right. Amazing Race is the class act of the genre and deserves every Emmy it's won. The only reason Phil Keoghan hasn't won the host prize is because he doesn't inject him into the play of the game the way that most others do, including Probst.

Pretty boy Probst needs to get a little tougher ... maybe he's a little too bookish!

Considering he's won more than once for Best Reality Host, he's got no room to talk. How about he steps down so Cat Deeley can get the nomination she's been robbed of? (If Ryan Seacrest can get nommed for AI, she can certainly get the nod for SYTYCD.)

First, Amazing Race should NOT take themselves out, because others have said, it is the class act of reality. Second, if Race were not to win or were to bow out, Survivor would not be next in line. I thought the prize should have gone to Top Chef... the other class act of reality programing. Hopefully Chef will break through soon. But I am also fine with Race's dominance.

Emmy nominations be damned, for the love of god would somebody buy this crew some 16:9 kit!!!
You'd think being such a successful show they could afford to upgrade to WIDESCREEN (you know, the format that has been around for over 10 years now?). Hell, I don't even care about HD (although it would be great) but please, this show would really benefit from taking up the whole screen - those black bars hurt my eyes.

Ed, have you seen a HD camera? With the format that the Amazing Race takes the show will be very difficult to film with all the crew having huge cameras. Survivor only changed a year or 2 ago. Imagine the Amazing Race crew running full steam with such cameras. It can't be done.

I have a theory. "The Amazing Race" wins Emmys because it is the one reality-competition series that doesn't embarrass the Emmy voters. Can you really imagine the bulk of the TV Academy admitting to each other that they watch "American Idol" or "Project Runway" not to mention "Celebrity Apprentice" (even if they do) but they can very easily say that they enjoyed watching "The Amazing Race" for the scenery.

My guess is that amazing race is just on the top of the list for Emmy nominations. All Survivor needs to do is call it self AA survivor.

The best show on T.V. should win an award every year. And A.R. is better than most anything on, including most scripted shows.

There are several reasons TAR shouldn't remove itself from consideration. First, why should it? Why shouldn't they collect as many awards as they're due? If other shows want an Emmy, do something about it!
The only other time I've heard of someone excluding herself from the Emmy because of consistently winning was Oprah... And what did that do? Did it raise the daytime bar because she bowed out? Hardly. It did nothing, except let someone else win... but is it really a win if the consistent winner just dropped out? Didn't stop the show, just decided that they're so good nobody could even possibly compete, so they have to bow out?
Is that really how Probst wants Survivor to win? Sure... because he knows that people remember the win, not the means of getting there.

I don't know why Probst is bitching...if TAR wasn't in the running then one of the other reality shows would get the prize, but it WOULDN'T BE SURVIVOR. That show stopped being interesting years ago once the novelty wore off. I wouldn't mind if So You Think You Can Dance won more Emmys though - they need the recognition.

Anyone that says Survivor isn't interesting just hasn't watched the last couple seasons, if you ask me.
