Entourage: Berried Alive

Rex Lee as Lloyd on HBO's 'Entourage.'
(S06E10) "I'm everywhere Lloyd." - Ari

Poor Lloyd - we knew this would happen. If there's one thing that Hollywood's newest agent should have learned, it's that you don't cross Ari Gold. Yes, Ari gave in and told Drama the truth - Lloyd will do a better job representing Drama - but he did it for Drama. Not for Lloyd. He's already cut Lloyd off from Coakley (and presumably NBC as a whole) and it's not crazy to imagine that Ari will continue to erect more walls in his former assistant's way. However, I've got some theories on how this may play out.

It's possible that Lloyd could crack under the pressure and come groveling back to Ari, asking for his former position back or at least for a junior agent position. However, what Ari seems to be realizing is that he severely underestimated Lloyd. Remember how shocked Ari looked when Vince told him that Lloyd took a job with Adam Davies? Ari was floored that Lloyd was able to make such a jump.

We saw a whole new side of Lloyd in this episode - determined and ready to get down to business. I'd say it's far more likely that the feud will continue between Ari and Lloyd and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if by season's end (we've got two eps left) Lloyd ends up landing something (or someone) big. And by big, I mean taking it from Ari. The apprentice outsmarting the master would clearly be the most satisfying story, but lately Doug Ellin and the Entourage team don't always go with what's most satisfying. We'll have to wait and see.

Beyond the Lloyd plot, this was probably the strongest episode of the season. The whole jealous girlfriend plot that both Turtle and Eric are wrapped up in became surprising enjoyable. Regarding Turtle, it's pretty easy to see where this is headed with Jamie-Lynn taking a gig that shoots in New Zealand. The only issue? His sorority crush seems to be far more enamored with who Turtle associates with rather than with just Turtle himself. He'll probably fool around with her but it won't go anywhere.

As for Eric, I know I'm not alone in applauding his choice to finally call it quits with crazy Ashley. Brittany, Eric's secretary, certainly had her pegged. That being said, Ashley definitely has Brittany pegged - she wants Eric. Problem there? He may end up in bed with her too, but there's no way it'll last since she's his secretary. I betcha we end up seeing both E and Turtle making plays for their true loves in the next two weeks - Sloan and Jamie-Lynn.

A few more thoughts on "Berried Alive" --

  • How ridiculous was it that Ashley thought Rupert Pupkin was a real person? On a side note, if you haven't seen The King of Comedy, make some time. DeNiro is creepy as hell in it.
  • Checking out Drama's old resume, turns out he was a guest lead on the original Melrose Place.
  • I had forgotten that Davies represented Drama. His "welcome back" comment caught me off guard at first.

The one thing missing from this episode? Vince. Last week we at least got to see Frank Darabont and Vince's Enzo Ferrari costume, but for the most part, he's been absent from this season. Seems like it's gonna end in typical Entourage fashion, though, with Vince heading off to film at season's end.
