I thought Defying Gravity was over. Kona wasn't sure, but had little hope. The internet ran with it and there were unsubstantiated reports that ABC would never air the final five episodes. It was frustrating because it ended just before the big reveal as to what the "beta" entity was. So it looked like it would be another chapter in the long list of television shows that ended on a maddening cliffhanger.I don't know what those episodes have in store, or if they provide better closure than what we have now, but ABC felt it was important enough to curb the rumors by putting out a statement that they fully intend to air those last Defying Gravity episodes. They just aren't sure when.
DG was too sci-fi for the audience they were hoping for with the "Grey's Anatomy in space" tag. There wasn't enough sci-fi for the hardcore science fiction base. At least those of us who toughed it out might get some closure.

I disagree with the assertion that "DG was too sci-fi for the audience they were hoping for with the 'Grey's Anatomy in space' tag." That was not the problem. The problem with Defying Gravity is that it just wasn't executed as well as it needed to be. I enjoyed it, but just a bit more than a little. I think its failure hinged on the lack of chemistry between characters who really should have had a lot of chemistry between them. Blame the casting director, perhaps, or perhaps some of the individual actors involved.

Even though ABC has screwed up with Defying Gravity, CTV is still running it! "Well," you say, "I can't get Canadian TV here!"
There are solutions!
One is HULU.com and the other is ch131.com. Channel 131 has all the episodes up to date, including Episode #9 where we finally see BETA!. [ www.ch131.com/dgseason1.htm ]
You can even Download and Save them!
Enjoy!

Thank YOU! I have been searching for websites that will allow me to finish this show. I loved it! I don't watch tv, nothing worth my time, but this show caught my attention. Sad to see it off the air.

I agree with Brian. I think the show generally was poorly executed. The events from episode 9 should have been in the pilot episode. It was a fundamental mistake to hold the reveal of the alien to the 9th ep of the series. Especially since the "purpose" of the mission could have been held for another ep or three.

Why on earth the "Grey's Anatomy in space" tag? Its more like "LOST" in Space, what with the flashbacks, the convoluted indiviual story lines, the ship being the island, and last but not all, a "supernatural force (being)" controlling/manipulating the "chosen ones". I could keep going on and on.
But as Creep said, "Thank god for torrents"

I think it failed in the conceptual phase. That's why I predicted it would be quickly canceled. The creators of this series obviously thought they had a way to draw in both men and women with a new type of show, but in trying to blend two genres, it alienated both sexes who are partial to one or the other. Almost every woman I've ever dated had absolutely no interest in anything related to sci-fi and I'm guessing most ment aren't interested in soap operas. I watched, but resisted the temptation to get too invested in it because I just knew it was doomed. It costs a fortune to develop a new show. People in Hollywood get paid big bucks to figure out in advance what seemed pretty obvious to me.

Would you look at this, another show that I liked and watched every week is gone, why do I even bother. I thought DG was a good show, maybe ABC should put it on another network of there's on cable tv, instead of just getting rid of it. For example, USA Networks works for Burn Notice and shows, of course I'm not sure what networks they own on Cable besides ABC Family.
Give me one good reason why I should watch any of the new shows this fall season if they are just got to be cancelled?

@Ric Kaysen: Your perspective on women interested in science fiction is antiquated.
"Syfy was the #1 ranked cable entertainment network in the Friday 9–10 pm time period in July among ... Women 25-54 ..."

Women are the "growth industry" for genre television. Eureka and Warehouse 13 show very clearly how great execution of genre programming plus human interest can equal successful execution. Defying Gravity just wasn't as good.

@Racedriven: In addition to ABC Family and the Disney Channel, the other cable network that ABC owns is SOAPnet... perhaps that's a good place for them to put the rest of Defying Gravity.

I was watching DG, but also waiting for it's cancellation. It just didn't move fast enough. Although, that's also my argument against Lost and people seem to love that show. I guess Lost kept people interested long enough to get invested in the plot by showing skin. I agree that the DG characters don't seem to have great chemistry.
I think one of their casting mistakes was to replace the original leader of the mission. I really like that actor and think he brings a great emotional element to the stereotypically one-dimensional characters he is cast to play.

CTV does NOT have Defying Gravity on next week's schedule...but rather the series Flashpoint is returning to it's normal time slot (according to CTV's TV listings)

I disagree with the statement that the show was "poorly executed." The show as a whole has been outstanding. The only problem is ABC. They failed to advertise accordingly and instead of promoting this show properly they left those efforts for other shows that are undoubtedly of less quality.
I hope this show continues and if not on ABC, I hope the SyFy channel picks it up. It's just enough Sci Fi and it's just enough drama. The combination was perfect. The advertising was lacking.

I agree - good show, better than any new show I've seen this year, well executed drama. I personally like the flashback approach. The SF aspect is decent, clearly less miraculous than Eureka. ABC however has not advertised it. Started it beginning of August??? and has it on late Sunday? Thank you Tivo and Hulu otherwise I'd never see it.

To a person who enjoys the occasional soap and the not so occasional sci-fi the marriage of the two sounds interesting but DG is not a succesful marriage. It needs to be commended for its high production value, production design and costume design but I find it very difficult to buy the characters as anything other than 2D cardboard cutouts. This makes it an uninteresting soap and it definitely isn't very interesting science fiction. With writers who think the cringeworthy phrase "You try to find the problem and I'll try to find your sex drive" makes for intelligent or funny television the show had no chance.
