The past few seasons have seen some controversy about some American Idol contestants. Particularly in the case of Carly Smithson who'd already had a major label deal. People want their American Idol to be an unknown. Some waitress plucked from Texas or something.Now that Kara DioGuardi's sticking around on TV's top show, she wants to have her own reality show. Everybody else on the panel has side projects. So DioGuardi is shopping around a show she's developed called Dropped. The idea is simple: grab the best acts that have been dumped by their labels and give them a second chance to make it big. America loves second chances, right Biggest Loser?
What a great idea. There are a lot of talented artists who got dropped by labels because of poor sales on an initial CD, or just differences in creative direction before they even got that far.
I think in order for it to work, she's going to need to spotlight recognizable and memorable acts, rather than faces we've never seen before. Didn't Taylor Hicks get dropped by his label? Hell, she could probably have an all-Idol alumni special.
It's not clear if this is going to be a competition where the audience votes on which act most deserves that second chance, with a new recording contract as the prize, or if it will be something a little different. Maybe they all live in a house and try to court Paula Abdul. Whichever one wins her heart gets to make the album. But they also have to marry Abdul. Is it worth it?

Not sure if I'd watch Kara DioGuardi do anything.
But I have one washout I'd like to see her find a way of bringing back...Thrasher Shiver. But of course country doesn't usually get the same ratings as pop , so maybe they're still out of luck.

Kara is great at what she does and I wish her all the luck. She brought a fresh face and spin to Idol and she's good at encouraging new talent to bring it. At least she's not a "Fruit Loop" like Paula! I will be watching Kara's programs, I will not be watching the nonsense of Abdul!
Sharon Osborne does a better job on AMG. Paula needs to take a loooooong vacay!!!

I never heard of Kara until she was dropped in as a fourth judge on AI. As far as I can tell, she's never done anything in her life prior to that. As for her show idea, maybe sounds good on paper but can't see how it would really work out in real life. Besides, we already have more than enough reality shows to wade through daily.

Just because you (and some others) never heard of Kara does not mean she lacks SERIOUS music biz credentials. She is a song writer who's music has been recorded by MAJOR stars. A very successful part of the music industry without "Idol". The AI show just gave her more public exposure. I DARE you to Google her accomplishments and THEN post what you did. (She's hot too!)

I would love to see Kara leave American Idol and produce her own show and leave Bull Dyke Ellen alone with the other two guys then you would have an all male panel. All three put their pants on the same way. Bet Ellen is hung better than Randy or Simon. Kara beware she will be trying to munch on your Cookies. Diesel all the way !!!!!!!!

Great idea! First came to mind, Melinda Doolittle! Fabulous voice and Simon beat her off the show. I would watch Kara. She is knowledgeable and I like her. I hope this works out!

Paula got shanked when they brought Kara in as the 4th Wheel. I saw the writing on the wall with that deal and so should have Paula. Paula should have protested the 4th person add as much as she could and tried to stop it in its tracks before it even was finalized instead of giving it a free test run on her back and then ultimately them running the bus over her. I won't be watching American Icehole again... because of the way they shanked Paula and also since they're bringing that fool Degenerate on the show. Ellen's insecurity won't allow her to be serious for more than about 5 seconds and what experience does she really have to judge singers? American Idol = A Dying Franchise.

Kara is not Paula, and should not try to replace her friend.
