After missing the premiere episode of Glee when it aired in May, I watched the DVR'd season premiere with friends last night. As soon as it was over, I promptly ditched them to head upstairs and watch the pilot on Hulu. I am hooked, people! And now, after seeing their version of "Don't Stop Believin'," I want to see Glee versions of all my favorite pop songs, plus all the show tunes I loved from back when I was a high school drama dork.
So, Glee fans, what's on your song wish list? My top five are after the jump.
- "Cry Me a River" - Justin Timberlake
- "Livin' on a Prayer" - Bon Jovi
- "I Don't Wanna Grow Up" -Tom Waits
- "Bleeding Love" - Leona Lewis
- "The Scientist" - Coldplay
If they were able to make Kanye's "Golddigger" work, I've got high hopes that the Glee cast can tackle pretty much anything. I hope that my enthusiasm in the show isn't misplaced, but even after only two episodes, I'm willing to declare it my new fall favorite. Whatever they sing next, I can't wait to hear it.

After Golddigger, I have fallen for Matthew Morrison. But here are my Top 5:
1. Leave Before the Lights Come On- Arctic Monkeys
2. Teenagers- My Chemical Romance
3. Soul Meets Body- Death Cab for Cutie
4. Quit Playing Games with my Heart- Backstreet Boys
5. Closing Time- Semisonic
Not all completely known but I would love to see one of them even hum it.

:) I'd like to think they have considered more obscure (but no less awesome) songs like the ones you've mentioned, but that's an unknown. I watched "Life After Film School" featuring the writer of the show (that episode premiered before the tease pilot episode early this year), and that was one thing he didn't talk about too much (song choice). He did say that the ultimate plan was to crank out the music in all formats... which was a brilliant idea that's already coming to fruition.
"Teenagers" seem like the perfect song, for obvious reasons, but there is the one repeated word that could throw things off. And it'd be hard to substitute a good lyric to replace it. They did do a song featuring a lyric about "broke n*gga's", but that was already cut clean for the retards that buy music created by that racist 8 year old. The only clean version I've heard of Teenagers simply replaced the lyric with a blank, not a great thing to hear on a TV show or uncut on MP3 & CD.
Yep, I've thought this out pretty well. We're only 1 technical episode in, so who knows what their plans are to deal with explicit lyrics in the future.
I loved "PUSH IT", as always. The song always makes me smile :D

They're pre-recorded by the cast. Yep, they're really that talented, kid.

I'd like to hear an Alicia Keys song. Perhaps "No One", but something like "Superwoman" may be more powerful. Who am I kidding, they can pick an Alicia Keys song out of a hat and it'd be a winner.

I think that premise is debatable. It was poorly executed, badly dubbed, and ruined (for me, at least) the mystique of the show being about a bunch of kids who love to sing. Not to mention the (arguably racist) cliché of having the African American student be the one to do most of the (student) singing (though Morrison, the teacher, actually sang lead).
I loved "Don't Stop Believing" and "Rehab" from the pilot because it felt like the characters were singing, and because the performances actually worked nicely into the plot. They didn't feel like overproduced set pieces designed to overly a montage (Morrison's wife being all golddigger like).

Oh great, I can't wait to hear the "racist" card every song originally released by a black person is sung on Glee.

1. Time is Running Out - Muse
2. Grace Kelly- Mika
3. Bohemian Rhapsody- Queen
4. Fluorescent Adolescent- Arctic Monkeys
5. Goodnight Goodnight - Hot Hot Heat
I think these would sound interesting sung by show choir. Glee should include some Alternative Rock songs and not just simply Pop and Top 40 songs.

Bohemian Rhapsody seems like a shoe-in, but I suppose they'd save such a big song for the finale.
The only problem I see with the Hot Hot Heat song is that it's so singular. Do you think it could be turned into a multi-harmony song? I'd certainly like to see more indie/alternative music on the show...
Along the same lines, Bloc Party would be freaking great to hear... but again, they have the one lead singer with some backing vocals here and there.

Ryan Murphy did an interview with Terry Gross on NPR's "Fresh Air", where I think he said either they were going ahead with an all-Billy Joel episode, or they were trying to do one. That's one I'd really like to see--also an all-Beatles episode (I'd imagine it's too hard to get those rights, though--at least with Billy Joel you just have to deal with one person).
It probably makes me a fogey to admit it (I'm 41), but I really don't care about any pop song from the last ten years--most I haven't heard of, anyway. Although I really think they should stay away from hip-hop, especially if the white guys are going to sing it.

Oh Gee, I don't know. They probably have a limited selection if they're going to rip off every arrangement from Petra Haden.

We can't stop talking about this show, and this has definitely been the new topic at the office. http://www.fideltylocksmith.com/ has a blog where are even talking about it...
I think we came up with more artists, not songs:
Queen
More Kanye (as much as we don't like him right now)
Beatles!
2pac (love to hear "changes" done by a glee club!)
thats it for now basically, we are still growing our list

Good songs, but what happened to the show tunes? No one in comments asked about it and it appears that it's not to be seriously considered for future episodes.
The group is "supposed" to be a show choir (or so I was lead to believe from the earlier show.)

Got to be Such Great Heights - The Postal Service
I've heard it done accapella a few times live but I'd love to see a professional rendition because this song is amazing in almost any format.

Ryan Murphy stole my heart with "This is How We Do It" and "Poison" this week. And "Golddigger" was really good last week. So, part of me wants more hip hop and part of me wants a change-up.
1. Something from George Michael - "Freedom '90", "Monkey", or "Hard Day."
2. "Back to Life" by Soul II Soul
3. Something by Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam
4. "Hey Ya" seems pretty obvious
5. Then maybe let's see what they could do with "Touch, Peel and Stand" by Days of the New

"This is how we do it" and "Golddigger", performed by William Shoo was a smash hit! For future episodes, I think that "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Quit playing games with my heart", and "Living on a prayer" are excellent choices! But here are my top picks for artists (regardless of songs)
1. Rihanna
2. Coldplay or Westlife
3. Backstreet Boys
4. Black-Eyed Peas
5. Bon Jovi
Still, I can't wait what songs the Glee cast would pick next
