(S02E12) "You may be the strongest, oldest vampire in my queendom, but if I wanted, I could own your fangs as earrings." - The Vampire Queen to Eric
We've come to the end of season two of True Blood, and I'm glad to see the Maryann storyline end (this is no spoiler; Alan Ball talked about it in my interview with him; and yes, Michelle Forbes is a fantastic actress). On the other hand, I'm sad to see True Blood ending and will wait impatiently for season three to start.
But this finale brought an end to a few storylines and set things up nicely for new ones in season three. After the jump, the episode review and your comments. Don't click through if you haven't watched the episode yet!
First, let's talk about Maryann's storyline. As mentioned, I won't miss it, even though Michelle Forbes is a great actress. Early in the season, Forbes said in an interview that she didn't believe Maryann was evil, and I sort of get that now. When Sam as the horned beast stabbed her, I was both cheering and feeling bad for her. She seemed to really believe that she was the one to be sacrificed at that moment. But thank God she's gone! And by the way, I'm not that sorry to see Eggs go either. The fact that he's the heart-cutter seemed a little anti-climactic. I think I sort of knew that in the darkest part of my heart.
But thank God Sam is ok! I knew something was up when he and Bill were conversing before the whole wedding scene went down. I figured they had it worked out to where Sam would take the fall and then be healed by Bill's blood. It will be interesting to see how that connection plays out next season.
As for Sam, so he's off to find his birth parents -- Melinda and Joe Lee Mickens in Megnolia, Arkansas, according to the note written by his adopted father. Do you think they're shapeshifters, too? The adopted parents certainly didn't have much good to say about them. Nice scene: seeing Sam's bare-naked butt after turning back from the horned beast to a human. Oh my.
Oh, Sookie! If you'd only accepted Bill's proposal right away instead of running off to the bathroom to think about it and ponder your identity, maybe he wouldn't have been assaulted with silver and taken away. And who do you think is the culprit there?
We've got Hoyt telling off his mom for lying to him for so many years and going to apologize to Jessica. At the same time, Jessica is biting an unsuspecting trucker. Will they get back together next season? My money's on Yes.
I'm still loving Evan Rachel Wood as the vampire queen and think it's funny that she's hooked on Yahtzee. Not nearly enough Eric in this episode, but it sounds like that will change next season. Interesting that he told her, "I do not love humans," and that she's the one having him sell vampire blood.
Other stuff:
- I like the little clicking sound the fangs make when they go in and out.
- Did you know Sheriff Dearborne is Larry from "my brother Daryl and my other brother Daryl" on Newhart? That's the one with Mary Frann, not the one with Suzanne Pleshette.
- Gross that Sookie had to lick the ostrich egg. She's a trooper, though.
- Andy and Jason still make a pretty good team.
- "You might have your faults, Andy, but at least you got pants on." - Sheriff Dearborne to Andy
- "It took me this long to realize it, but you suffer a lot more hiding something than you do if you face up to it." - Sam to Bill
- "Mr. Merlotte took us to see some vampires ... and one of them could fly!" - Arlene's kids to Arlene
- "Yep, I'm pretty sure he's dead." - One of Arlene's kids on where Rene disappeared to, after Arlene gives a vague answer
- "Never say never when there's the Internet." - Sam to his adopted mother
I also loved the girl-chat in the bar, talking about how they'd heard Maryann was an agent of the pharmaceutical company who'd poisoned the water supply with LSD, "and that's why i stick to mountain dew."
And this about Sam: "God bless who made those jeans. I'm serious. I'd wear him like a scrungee."
And did you notice Charlaine Harris?
Your thoughts on the finale?

I wish they'd stay closer to the book plots. The Maryann debacle was boring and simply to allow a lot of sex and naked bodies into the mix. But now that they have a following, I hope they will stick closer to the book plots. The books are fascinating.

Awesome episode! My vote goes for Eric being the culprit, "I'll take care of Bill Compton..."

Yeah, I thought it could be Eric too. I think I noticed the person with the chain was wearing gloves which could indeed mean they were a vampire.

that and the fact that they show him stab daphne a couple of episodes back....it wasnt a secret that eggs was maryanns heart man.
I am sorry to see this season end, but not. I hated the whole Maenad story line, it was tedious and ridiculous and boring. The Fellowship of the Sun should have been the real big bad but it wasnt. Maryann and her followers came across to me like some giant halloween festival haunted hayride gone wrong and I couldnt get out fast enough.
As for the season finale, eh. I give it a 4 out of 10. 2 of those points are for sams backside , one for the minute that Eric was on the screen, and one for Maryann finally dying on the brahmans horn.
Bills proposal was a desperate attempt to keep sookie away from Eric, and it wont work. She cannot marry him, not only because she is light and he is darkness but because deep down she isnt sure he is the "one" and to rush her will only make her run into Erics arms quicker. Bad move Bill.
As for who took him? I say Lorena.

Just because it was mentioned in an previous interview (which should also have been labeled as containing a spoiler, btw), you shouldn't assume that makes it okay to put the "spoiler" before the jump either. Not that it was much of a spoiler to begin with (could easily see it coming), but be more consistent.

This page is a review of the just aired finale. There was a spoiler alert in the review. If it was 'spoiled' then you only have yourself to blame. Don't come to the page to read a review of an episode you haven't yet watched. Seems like a given.

You know, Amanda some people (most?) that read this site actually subscribe to the RSS feeds. So they're not coming to the page, but rather having the page come to them. Many times before we've had a chance to watch the episodes. So yeah, posting spoilers at the very top isn't really what I'd like to see. But I long ago gave up on the writers here giving a shit about not spoiling us. I think they take pleasure in it.

I might be overthinking this but when Sam turned into a horned bull wouldn't his arms morph into front legs and not horns?

Best line-- Jason's "I love the smell of nail polish in the morning."
Bless his sweet, dim-witted little heart. He's come a long way as a character this season!

It was a takeoff on "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" From Apocalypse Now (Or maybe the phrase is copyrighted and could not be repeated word for word...)

Actually, it wasn't a take off from the dialogue in Apocalypse now. Jason is a hunk, but the boy is stupid. He thinks the dialogue was "I love the smell of nail polish in the morning".

I enjoyed the episode. I was glad to see Eggs gone. I liked Maryann, but not so much the storyline. She reminded me of Jamie Lee Curtis when she played Shelly in My Girl. Mmmmmm Sam's butt, in and out of jeans. Truly a sight. I was bummed we didn't see more Eric. I am ready for next season. Bring it on!

Charlaine was recently in Atlanta and said she not only filmed in Merlotte's, but got to eat there after filming. Neato. She also said she loved the direction Alan Ball has taken the show, including the liberties he's taken with the story line. After hearing her speak, I am pretty sure Anna Paquin is mimicking Charlaine's accent for Sookie.
I cannot wait to see which direction Alan will take this next. I think Maryann had to be annoying enough for us to revel in her death. The formula Alan used worked... I did a hoo-yah! back-flip when she got gored by Sam. When Eggs went nuts, I predicted him either killing Andy or getting shot by someone else. I"m so glad I don't have to refer to someone on the show as a food item anymore.
Tara owed Sookie a much bigger apology, and frankly she deserves the consequences after abandoning everyone's advice and going back for Eggs. I think it's funny that while Tara was holding Eggs' corpse, Sookie was sucking down some gourmet desert and loving life. She has it so good with Bill, and it's funny how everything outside of their relationship is always falling apart, but they manage to keep it together. It'll be interesting to see how Eric fits into the equation.

I did not like this season finale. It felt hokey and cheesy but I am glad the whole Maryann thing is laid to rest.
I loved the ending- I would guess Eric was behind Bill's being dragged away since the Queen demanded he take care of Bill. Why is the Queen making Eric sell V?
If I never see Sheriff Dearborne's skinny, bony legs, I will be a happy campy. Yuck. What a visual.
I also liked the vulnerability of Hoyt. He is such a good person and finding the truth out was so painful for him. I guess Jessica took their break-up out on the sleazy trucker.
Where was Charlaine Harris?

I guess I am the only one sorry to see EGG go and the way he was taken out by that dumb as a rock Jason. Oh, well, I probably knew it would end this way. I give this episode a 5 out of 10.

I bet Charlaine Harris was one of the two ladies at the bar discussing the goings on in the town and that it might be aliens or the government.
