I just spent 2 straight hours watching all of the Guiding Light videos. Thank you Youtube!! I started watching GL as a young child with my grandmother and became hooked probably about the age of 10. Seeing all these clips, especially the clips from the 70s & 80s brought back a flood of memories...memories of the show, the stars, my grandmothers and my friends from middle & high school, as we all watched GL nearly every day. And when school events and work and later "life," especially as a single parent beginning in 1985, my grandmothers would fill me in on what I'd missed. I remember trying to keep up with the show by video taping it every day, but being a single mom and eventually needing to work 2 jobs, the time came when I could not keep up. Still my 2 grandmothers would continue to fill me in...until their deaths in 1994 & 1995. But whenever I was home during the week, I always watched the show and could basically get caught up to speed in a couple of episodes. (The beauty of soaps!) Watching these vidoes made me cry...for all the actors over the years, for the end of an era, and for my grandmothers. My mother's mother, especially...she NEVER missed an episode, even in the hospital as she lay dying at the age of 91, she did not pass until the episode that day had ended. I miss my grandmothers, and I'll miss GL almost as much. If anybody who ever worked on GL sees this, please know how greatful all of us fans are for making 3-4 pm (eastern time) the best hour of M-F for generations and generations. I will be waiting for books to come out now....it won't quite be the same, but it will have to do.
