Oh sure, now that she's not there anymore, they miss her. Sounds like a familiar story, but this is American Idol. Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell are missing Paula Abdul at the judge's table. They're in the midst of the audition process, using guest judges like Neil Patrick Harris and Kristin Chenoweth, and Randy confessed that he's looked over for Paula during the process and wondered, "Where's my P?"Simon, who seems to have a lexicon all his own, said that he misses Paula, too. But in his bizarre way with words, he compared the new Idol atmosphere as different, like "comparing a carrot to a banana."
Hmm... is Paula the carrot or the banana? Which would she want to be? Maybe this was his version of comparing apples to oranges, which would mean that they're both good, but not the same. However, apples and oranges are both fruits. Carrots and bananas aren't. Simon knows that, doesn't he?
Whatever he meant, the fact remains that while it's politically correct and nice of Simon and Randy to speak so fondly of Paula now that she's gone, where were they when she was in protracted negotiations with the producers that resulted in her decision to leave? At one point, Simon assured reporters that Paula would be back. He was wrong.
Meanwhile, there's still no word on what Paula Abdul will do next beyond her saying she'd like to do a talk show someday.

How great it would be if the show tanked and Simon had to admit the show worked because of Paula and not him.

I think Simon probably assumed that Paula would give in, but she didn't. Also, Paula isn't exactly a producer for the show, nor is she producing new shows for Fox, nor has she done anything outside of AI like Randy and WaterWave, so her expectation for receiving a salary equal to those who did more in and outside of the show. All the same, I'll definitely miss her quirks and, if she had wanted more $, I wish she had taken advantage of all the offers placed on her table post-Idol, as opposed to settling on just 1 offer, VH1.

Paula needs to seriously reconsider this rash decision. She will discover that nothing else she does will give her the profile or the salary that Idol did. Talk shows are a dime a dozen; American Idol is one of a kind. She was so lucky to have gotten what may be the most plum gig on TV, and now, she has thrown it away. It's not too late; she needs to come to her senses and come back to Idol before the Hollywood auditions begin.

American Idol is one of a kind? If that's true, how is it that it's spawned a ton of similar shows (Country Star, So You Think You Can Dance, other countries' versions of AI)?
