Granted, I laughed when I saw this, but I can imagine that some would be appalled. If this ever appeared on American television, it would be pulled in about three seconds. Basically, it's a children's show (geared for boys ages 6 to 11) called The Ancient Dogoo Girl, and it's about a teen girl (who hopefully is played by someone older) with some sort of ancient magic bra that shoots energy weapons or spikes or magic beams or some such equivalent. No, I am not kidding about this.I see some Japanimation influence on the show (they have a cute sidekick robot of some sort), and quite possibly some hentai influence, as well. What does it say about a culture when even its children's television is degrading to women?
Video follows. If there are children in the room, I recommend escorting them out unless you want them to learn something. If they stay, there might be some really awkward questions afterward.

I have a very large issue with the premise of your statement. Would you say its degrading to women if she was shooting lasers or whatever from her eyes? I'm just so sick of people saying this or that is degrading to women. I asked a woman this the other day and she couldn't come up with an answer:
Can someone make a heterosexual porn that's 'degrading to men'?
Have you ever heard anyone actually say anything involving a topless buff guy was degrading to men?
There's a reason why most can't say yes to those questions and its because a bunch of social conscious people just like complaining. People like good looking things, good looking people tend to know how to benefit off that. It's a system that has worked for ages.

My friend, I sincerely hope this is just an attempt to troll.
I think what the post is implying is that a male superhero wearing a thong who shoots lasers from his crotch would not be accepted as a children's show. Even in Japan.
The idea that they accept this show (and whose to say they aren't protesting this...maybe they are) is a sign that perhaps they do not have the same respect for women that they do for men.
My apologies to the TVSquad poster if I have paraphrased incorrectly.

I would watch that too but not with the same enthusiasm as Dogoo Girl.

Pingles, you don't know Japanese TV very well. They would certainly allow a childrens show where a man shoots things from his crotch.

Pingles, all you did was state your opinion and reiterate the (yet unproved claim). He's asking for proof of this claim:
"The idea that they accept this show is a sign that perhaps they do not have the same respect for women that they do for men."
I see absolutely no proof or evidence of this in your post. Malfoy made a very valid point, but it seems like anyone that disagrees is "being a troll" since your opinion is SO OBVIOUSLY correct (to you, at least).

are we sure this isn't just a weird Japanese joke? Some of them have strange senses of humor. I can't imagine this being real kid's show. The Japanese would not subject their elementary age boys to this, nor would they degrade women like that for that age group. It must be a teen show if it's real.

This show is not a real kids' show as it is actually set to air at 1:25 in the morning (past midnight).

I agree that it's a bit confusing as the end of the video indicates an air time of 1:25 PM but the official website indicates an air time of 1:25 "late-night".

In Japan late-night means anything with PM. So 12:00pm-11:59pm is classed as late-night.

Sorry, but that is simply untrue. "Shinya" ("late-night") does not mean PM. Late-night is late-night. And as "perverted" as Japanese media can be at times, there is no way that a show like this would be shown at 13:25; in any case, all the kids are in school at that time (assuming that this is a show geared towards kids, which it most likely is not). The fact that this show begins airing at an odd time (25 minutes after the hour as opposed to 00 or 30 minutes after the hour) is also a pretty good clue that it is a late-night show.
On a side note, I do recall that there was a Japanese animated mecha show that aired in the late afternoon in the early eighties in which a "female" robot would use her boobs like missiles to take out her enemies. Weird.

What a horribly ignorant statement. "What does it say about a culture when even its children's television is degrading to women?" What does is say about Japan where their underage / unmarried sexual escapades are far less than the States (actually, even between married couples, it's much less) where we're taught to not enjoy sex, avoid it, and be scared of it.
Please, do some research before you make social commentary.
Sure, it is a very male dominated society - but so is ours even though we pretend it's not. Why are we really upset here? How DARE Japan show boobies to kids that are young? You're right, we don't do that here. MTV is all giggles and innocence. Commercials don't always show females cleaning and men making mistakes while in a kitchen. Music videos don't objectify women, oh no!
Frankly, I'm most irritated at Brad Trechak for even posting this. Don't be a hypocrite. Watch one episode of Sponge Bob and tell me that's completely geared toward children when it's full of sexual innuendos or penis references.

Brad is absolutely right, this is degrading to women and inappropriate for children. The others who are saying 'oh it happens in america too' as a "counter argument" are using logical fallacies. If "A" is doing something unacceptable, it doesnt magically become acceptable because "B" is doing it as well.

so you didn't watch any of the austin powers movies? which aired on network tv after they raked in the $$ elsewhere....
you've never watched wonderwoman (ok so she never had boobs that DID anything... but her little bra looked similar) you never watched she-ra or zena warrior princess? all of the shows I've mentioned have been aired during primetime as well as rerun during the official "children's" time... daytime.
I didn't see any inappropriate gestures , touching, or any more ogling than I would see in a bugs bunny cartoon.
though I think it isn't geared toward 12 year old boys, more like teens and those japanese men who find teenage girls um... fascinating.

I live in Japan and this is no wierder than most stuff I see on TV. And most likely is Dogo-chan has some sort of special expression or action, all the kids will be mimicing in school. If the kids don't watch it, then the otaku's will. Believe me, after 3 years living here and watching some of the stuff I've seen on TV here....this is nothing. In the convience stores and any store that sell manga, you can pick up many copies that show things that would be considered "racy" in the States. It's just Japan.
As far as it bein degrading to women...please. American TV does a good job of that with all those VH1 shows. This show isn't degrading to women. I've seen much worse on American TV. It's just silly Japanese television.
