(S04E22) It's time to narrow down the talent field to the Top 8 acts who will perform in the final round of this season's America's Got Talent. They'll get the chance to win a million, as well as perform on the Vegas Strip in a special show hosted by ex-AGT host Jerry Springer. This week's results show featured a special performance from The Hoff himself. Did he give a performance worthy to be Xed, or did he deliver the goods? My two cents, as well as which first four acts are moving to the final round coming up!
Arcadian Broad, The Texas Tenors and Drew Thomas Magic are the first up to learn their fate. As soon as Nick confirmed that only one of these acts was going through, I knew it would be The Texas Tenors even if I was rooting for Drew. To my displeasure, Nick quickly sent Drew and his team packing. This decision was not surprising, since Drew served us a trick he's performed before on the show, just in a different setting. Once again, magicians do not make it to the AGT finals. Will we ever see the day? Nick then confirmed my hunch, The Texas Tenors are going to the finals. Will Arcadian blame his loss on the producers making him perform the High School Musical act?
The Muppets perform "Don't Go Breaking My Heart." It was a fun filler, but didn't bring much else to the results show.
Next up are Grandma Lee, Tony Hoard and Rory and Paradizo Dance. Once again, only one act is going through. My money is on Grandma Lee since she is so entertaining, real and funny. The first act sent packing is Paradizo Dance. As the crowd screams "Grandma Lee, Grandma Lee," Nick gives his usual "the next act going through..." He then tells us what we want to hear: Grandma Lee! Yay! We'll get more Hoff, Grandma Lee, Piers lovin' jokes.
It's now time for a Hofftastic performance by David Hasselhoff. My expectations were extremely low, so it turned out that the Hoff surprised me. His facial expressions and moves were a bit too soapish for my taste but his singing wasn't bad at all. The routine was well choreographed and performed. You could see David had fun on stage, and it resonated with the crowd. David is not the best performer out there, but he showed that he does have some talent and can give a fair singing performance. This act may help a few viewers understand why The Hoff is part of the jury ... if only he didn't check his common sense at the door when it's time to vote....
It's time for the remaining acts to step forward: Kevin Skinner, Acrodunk, The Voices of Glory and the Fab 5. Unsurprisingly, Kevin Skinner gets the third spot. It was fun to see Nick remind Kevin that he promised Sharon a huge smile. There's only one spot left for the three remaining acts. The Acrodunk members are told they are not moving on. I'm bummed because they were extremely entertaining and daring. Plus their act would have added some diversity to the Top 8.
That leaves The Voices of Glory and Fab 5 on stage waiting to hear who is getting the final spot. As soon as Nick said they came in fourth and fifth in the votes, I knew the producers decided to keep having the judges decide which act would get the final spot. Argh! Don't they read the viewers comments?!? We HATE it when the judges decide the final spot! Why make us vote then?!
Sharon says that she can't decide. As she's done before, she has the guys decide first. David says he can't decide either and passes it to Piers. Piers says they either send them both packing or keep them both. Piers says that there would be no judges' pick and that both The Voices of Glory and Fab 5 are going to the finals.
So we will have a Top 9 instead of 8 unless the judges decide again next week that they can't decide, which means we will get a Top 10. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad both acts got through to the finals. However, this year's rules said a Top 8, why not stick to that? Rules are rules, no? As Piers said there would be no judges' pick, I wish he would have told Nick they would go with America's decision, and then ask him to announce who was fourth. What do you think? Are you happy with the judges' decision? Would you have preferred that they give the fourth spot to the act that placed fourth in votes?
So far the Top 8 9 is composed of:
- 3 singing acts: The Texas Tenors, Kevin Skinner, The Voices of Glory
- 1 comedy act: Grandma Lee
- 1 dance act: Fab 5
Were you able to predict the first four five acts in the Top 8 9? Do you think America made the right choices? Let your voice be heard in comments below!

Basically the judges proved that are not fit to be there. The whole Idea on being a judge is to make the hard decision. If they could not do that, then I agree that the producer should have stepped in and the one that got the most votes should move up, the other eliminated. It proves that it is not about the contest and most likely the TV votes mean little or nothing to influence the results. For all we know, the winner has already been picked by the producers and calling in a vote is useless. But in the end the ratings rule.

Big mistake in my opinion, to drop Acrodunk, a wildly innovative, unique and exciting act to favor, I'm sorry to say, a strictly mediocre country singer. I'd pay money to see Acrodunk.
Kevin has a compelling story, and I think it's cool that he got off the porch and made it to the semis, but in vocal strength and range, he just doesn't have it. The comparison to Johnny Cash is undeserved.
It's especially puzzling to me why Kevin's biggest supporter is the cranky Brit. I suspect that's a decree from the producers.

I am not sure why I keep watching this show. The Hoff made some of the acts look good because he was so bad. Kevin Skinner who has been pimped from day one as something special was off key through the entire performance the night before and because the show keeps pumping him up gets through. Once again the only act I would pay money to see Acrodunk was sent home. I've got to stop watching......

Was sorry to see magic guy go, especially on the week that he brought his daughter. You know that "You got voted off because I stunk up your act for you" surely came up backstage. I also expect that, because he brought her in, that his trick was a little more subdued than perhaps it could have been (so yes, he got voted off because of his daughter, sad but probably true).
I could care less about Grandma Lee, I don't find old lady "everybody wants to do me" jokes all that funny. Too predictable. I'm surprised about Fab 5 going as far as they have. Whenever they brought in the sticks and cymbals I thought "Ok, 'Stomp' theyre not." Plus, isn't there another percussion act coming up next week that blows them away on that front?
Next week you could almost imagine Footwork Kings, Laurence Beaman and Barbara the opera lady, unless something weird happens. I'd like to see Recycled Percussion take the last spot. Mario and Jenny may be very Vegas, but at the end of it he's still just a single juggler.

Well, I disagree with everyone so far. I think Acrodunk was good, but I don't know if I could sit through and hour and a half of them. No one likes Kevin Skinner, but he is my first choice. Give him a break--he is as good as some of the singers in Nashville. Why I do not like to see on this show is people who have professional ties or do this as a living attempt to win. The guy that did Frank Sinatra last year was a pro and hired himself out for shows. I think this should be for new and raw talent that does not get paid regularly to perform. Even Grandma Lee has been on TV shows before. I enjoy watching the show. If you don't agree with the politics, then stop watching it.

It is shocking to see that Acrodunk was sent home. Acrodunk was the only act who brought life to America Got Talent. They were entertaining and were the life of AGT. Now there is nothing to see in AGT.

I would pay to see acrodunk any day. Do you really think people are going to pay to see voices of glory sing religion songs in Las Vegas??? Come on.

So I got some dirt from two of the acts that were in the top 40: Apparently -every- act is choreographed and decided on by the producers. The two acts I talked to both said nothing was left to their decision, not the song choice, not the choreography, not the outfits they wear, nothing. I think that's pretty sad to be honest. If we're going to vote on the best act it should be their own work. The judges will sit up there and complain about the outfits or the act and as if they had a decision in the matter - Arcadian was just the only one that defended himself by telling the truth (something he wasn't supposed to do) and you could see it on his face last night - he knew he was going home regardless of what the vote count was.
Awful show, I need to stop watching it.

Costuming, choreography, and staging are provided by producers to level the playing field. No act should be cut because they didn't have the costume, makeup, or set design to present themselves in the best light possible.
Besides, Vegas acts have all sorts of behind the scenes people who do everything they can to make the performer(s) look as polished as possible.

I agree that Acrodunk should have been in the semi-finals. Kevin Skinner and The voices of Glory should have been gone. They are cute kids, but like all the judges stated they are young and have along way to go. Kevin Skinner blew me away a couple of times, but he was severely off key and boring. To be in Vegas the act needs to be exciting. Kevin and the Voices bored me to tears ...
My favorites were The Fab Five and Acrodunk.
I can't believe that none of the judges would tell The Voices they were going home. That's not fair at all, and if they can't decide then it should be based on how America voted. The last place vote should have automatically been let go.......

I agree 100%!
If the judges can't decide, it should have been left up to the vote. The act that placed fourth should have gone through to the finals. The act that placed fifth should have gone home.
Personally it should have been left up to the vote each and every time!

Isabelle, I know youw ant the magic acts to go thru and so do I, but they have to be entertaining, and that magic act wasnt. Same trick, please, if he was a good magician he would have more than 1 or 2 tricks. Its not that people wont vote for magicians, its that they arent any good so far.

It's possible the show planned all along to let 5 acts go through like they have in the past, but just did it this way to add a bit of a surprise element to it, just as they've mixed it up already when announcing who would be going through (EriAm Sisters), and if that's the case, I like it. If the judges really did say they couldn't decide and overrode the show and the network, that's fine, too. I just honestly don't get why so many people watch the show and then seem to just want to complain about it. Just don't watch it. I still really enjoy the show and am probably just going to stop reading posts (and articles) from people who don't actually discuss the show but rather rant.

As noted above, judges are paid to judge, not waffle or crumble under pressure. Whoever was fourth should have gone through. Period. And then hire new judges, ones with courage and not afraid to, you know, JUDGE? The comments about 'Aw-shucks, I'm just a chicken-catching, shy, never been off-n my porch in Kentucky guy' were spot on, nice story, weak voice. Grandma Lee is funny, and she's a 'niche' act in the sense there aren't a lot of women her age doing Ex Lax/Viagra jokes. The Fab Five are beautiful, and really good cloggers, but other than the costumes and music, has anything else changed? Voices of Glory should listen and become 'Whatever her name is' and the Pips. The brothers are killing them. Amazed they got more votes than Acrodunk. The rest of the also-rans, kinda deserved their fate. I have no issues with any of them not moving on. Whatever his name is and Rory shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Once again someone got overlooked. In this case Acrodunk. Although I love this act, I do agree that it would be hard to watch someone dunking a ball for an hour. The acts that advanced I think earned their ticket with the exception of Voices of Glory. The girl was terrific but the two brothers will eventually drag her down. As to why 5 acts advanced instead of the 4 advertised, it was all pre-scripted. If you look at Futon Critic and TV Guide they indicate 10 acts not 8 for the Final. The judges just had to pretend that they could not make up their mids and passed the last 2 acts. I can see Sharon & the Hasselhoff having an issue, but as we know Piers is the strong critic in this show and has always been there for the deciding vote. I hope most of you agree. The decisions come from Simon Cowell and the other producers. It's entertainment and that is a business that is designed to generate revenue. All decisions are made at the top.

I was shocked when Acrodunk was eliminated. I was also shocked to see Voices of Glory advanced since their last two appearances have not impressed me. The girl is good but the two brothers are dragging her down. The other four acts I thought deserved to be there. I was not surprised to see five acts advance since TV Guide's listing and The Futon Critic indicated 10 acts and not eight for the final. This was not coincidence that none of the judges could not decide. This was pre-scripted in the show and the judges just followed the script. Sharon and Hasselhoff might of had doubts but we all know Piers Morgan he would have made a decision.
