You might think that after finally breaking through at the Daytime Emmys and winning the golden statuette in the category Outstanding Host(s), the folks at ABC's The View would be resting on their laurels. Not so. The View is shaking up their production effective immediately.
According to Bill Geddie, executive producer, they're going to try and make The View more interactive, which is code for using email and web cams and other newfangled Internet sort of things to reach out to the viewers.
Look, there's nothing wrong with change and slapping on a new coat of paint is probably a good idea. In fact, there will be a new opening and the set will have a spiffy new color scheme. Geddie plans to also stick a camera (or two) in the green room where you can see guests before they come onto the set. Of course if you believe that anybody in the green room waiting to appear won't know that they might be caught on camera, you probably think reality shows are unplanned, too.
The changes are mostly cosmetic, but I do wonder about the idea of getting viewers to submit questions. Seriously, there are five hosts on the show already asking questions. Even if Barbara Walters is not there, that's still four loquacious ladies peppering a guest with queries. When will they fit in a question from Sarah in Suburbia? They will try, I'm sure, especially in the first month or so when the Skype hook up in new, but I predict it's going to get old really quick.
By the way, since they're revamping the set, I suggest they go for the Kathy Griffin look and put the Emmys right on the desk for everyone to see everyday. After 12 years, they've earned the chance to gloat.

I find nothing more unwatchably awkward as webcam segments. Whether it's the Today show, Talk shows or even nerdy, gadget-friendly shows like G4's "Attack of the Show" the average viewer being interviewed over a laggy, grainy, uncomfortably angled shot makes me switch channels very quickly.

Yeh, I don't see how this can go wrong ... this is how talk shows "jump the shark", doing silly, shallow things in an effort to be "cool". I'm surprised Twitter wasn't part of this press release but I'm sure it'll figure in it before it's done.

I definitely don't like it when shows use webcam questions. I don't want to hear what someone like me thinks about anything. That's not why I watch a show, especially like The View, where these interesting ladies have plenty to say on their own. Please don't use skype!

I would just like to say I am a 60 year old female I have been watching the view since it first aired. What I would like to see is a mans view on the show. I think it would make subjects alittle more interesting hearing what the male has to say.

Get rid of Joy and that would be a HUGE improvement right away! Whoopi always makes me laugh and I enjoy Barbara & Elizabeth. However when they start arguing and talking ( more like shouting) over each other I just turn the channel. It seems its Joy everytime to start crap, always shoving her Liberal crap down your throat, I know Whoopi is a Liberal to but she presents herself as an adult not a screaming nutcase. I like hearing different points of the view but not when they are being unprofessional.

I haven't watched "the View" in years because of the extreme liberal voices spewing out of all the lipstick on all the faces except Elizabeths'. These are elitists who don't live in the real world, but then, most New Yorkers don't.
This program is like most on TV...a huge waste of time!

congrats! to the ladies of the view, I've been watching the view for a very long time, however I hate it when they talk over one another, they never let one finish their sentence, even the guest! so I too change the channel, I pretty much like all the ladies except Joy, she sphews venom all the time, and she makes fun of things that are serious.

I dont like the View at all. I have tried watching it a few times, but when they all start talking at once and trying to out-talk each other, it gives me a headache. I am surprised they have been on the air as long as they have. It must be because of Barbara Walters. I do like her very much but not the show. Give Barb her own show and get rid of the View.
