Filming is underway for season five (called series five in the U.K.) of the adventures of everyone's favorite Time Lord, Doctor Who, and naturally, a few secrets of the next season have already been leaked. For the benefit of those who don't wish to be spoiled, the goodies will be revealed after the jump. The rest of you can go about your business.
The Doctor's oldest adversaries, The Daleks, will definitely be appearing in season five. This should really not come as a surprise to anybody, since it's practically mandatory for each Doctor to fight the Daleks at least once.
It's something of a Doctor's right of passage.
In the beginning of the series, they're what kept it going (the Daleks were more popular than the Doctor back then). Paul McGann's Doctor didn't encounter them in his sole television appearance, but they did have a background presence and he did fight them later on, both in novelizations and audio adventures.
It wouldn't surprise me if Steven Moffat just threw in a Dalek story to get the mandatory appearance out of the way. They are a British institution, you know.

Maybe Moffat will be able to write better Dalek stories... I won't hold my breath though.
Truthfully, I think the biggest problem I have with modern Dalek stories is that we were denied the best one ever... ie the time war. Instead we get some pretty mediocre encounters.

I think the Daleks suffer from the same problem the Borg or the Terminators do. They were supposed to be this big, evil, unstoppable force bent on extinction. In each case, the "good guys" won by the skin of their teeth.
However, there are two problems. First, you can only ramp up the danger so much. And even as you do, if the heroes still come out on top, you have to wonder just how bad a threat they are.

I agree, Charles.
There was also the fact that it seemed like each time Eccleson or Tennant encountered the Daleks, it was made out to be this big shocker - "But the Daleks are supposed to be gone forever!" Well, yeah, but what about those six other episodes where you ran into them and said the same thing?

Stop whinging. You're lucky to get the series at all. It's BRITISH after all. You've got your Battlestar Galactica and all that stuff.

I completely agree, mrliparota & Charles. Add to that the fact that they aren't just fighting ONE of them (except in the series 1 episode Dalek)-- they're always fighting a massive horde. And that massive horde is always, without fail, completely _massacred_ in what, five seconds? Bad Wolf was cool. Doomsday was okay. But really, it doesn't work like that.
What happened to those Old!Who episodes where, you know, they had to actually take each Dalek out individually?
