(S02E10) "Jesus and I agreed to see other people, but that doesn't mean we don't still talk from time to time." - Lafayette to Tara's mom, praying over a spellbound Tara
I'm as hooked on Eric as the next girl, but I must admit, I felt a little protective of Bill during that opening scene. Sookie comforting Eric and kissing his blood-tear-stained face over the loss of Godric was sweet, but emotional. If and when that day comes, I'm not sure who I'll be rooting for: Eric or Bill. It would definitely be a tough choice for Sookie.
So what do you think about Sookie at this point? Again, I haven't read the books so have no preconceived notions about her. But some have speculated that she's a faerie. Do you think that's the case? That was a pretty cool scene where she pushes Maryann away and that white light comes out of her hands. Could Sookie be the counter-goodness to Maryann's evil? Yeah, I know Michelle Forbes said she's not really evil, but that's how I see her. She's turned the whole town into a chaotic mess and cast a spell over everyone that causes them to do whatever they want, even kill people. To me, that's evil.
As was her weird statue of raw meat, flowers, veggies, kidneys, livers ... a gift for the gods ... and her wanting to cut Sam's "heart out while a bunch of naked people watch" (his words). At least that craziness led to the excellent scene where Jason got to play a god ("I smite thee, Sam Merlotte!") while wearing a gas mask as Andy held up "horns" behind his head. The whole lame Maryann storyline all season was worth it to get to that scene.
Then after Sam "disappears" and returns clad only in an apron with his butt hanging out the back, Andy says, "That's the last drink I'll ever take." Nice. I'm loving the kick-ass trio of Jason, Andy and Sam.
Sam: "If I'd left this town when I wanted to, nobody would be in this situation."
Andy: "Don't beat yourself up, Sam. You've been real good to this town, even if you are a sometimes nudist."
Oh, and I must comment on my ongoing girl-crush on Anna Paquin / Sookie Stackhouse. I wish I had half the chutzpah she has, whether it's fearlessly coming up against mean vampires or staring down a bizarro creature who's taken over her home. Go girl. She doesn't seem afraid of anything, even her own emotions.
Then when Bill tries biting Maryann only to start hurling up black stuff, Sookie once again takes matters into her own hands, saying (in essence), 'Well, ok, then! We've gotta get you to the vampire doctor!' I mean, she continues on even in the face of horrible desperation (the chaos of Bon Temps and otherwise).
Other stuff:
- That's a sweet carry-all case they haul Bill around in during the day.
- I'm feeling a lot more sympathetic towards Tara's mom these days. She used to be such a mess, but seems to have turned things around in her own way.
- Andy grabbing a bottle of liquor on his and Sam's way into the cooler to escape the angry mob of spellbound people.
- Jason attacking the boombox with this chainsaw. The boy's got some muscles.
- Jessica getting fed up with Hoyt's mom and going after her with fangs bared.
- The Vampire Queen!
By the way, I'll be talking with Alan Ball this morning. Any burning questions you'd like me to ask?

That was a short episode. It felt like I was watching Showtime. Can't wait until next week.

Anna Paquin is just too freakin gorgeous. Definitely looks great as a blond (she always looked kinda awkward when she was younger, especially with the weird x-men "rogue" hairdo).
Anyway, very interesting episode. Jason Stackhouse really cracks me up at times.
I assume at some point they're going to explain why Maryanne has such a vendetta against Sam Merlot, right? Why him? She specifically said it was not the money he took from her many years ago. She doesn't seem like the type to hold a grudge over money anyway. She can get people to give her whatever she wants....

This episode as craziness! The opening scene had me at the edge of my seat, I love the bad guys so of course i have been rooting for eric since day one. Especially after reading all of the books!!!
As for all the maryann stuff I cant wait to see how they deal with her. I also think what she does and how she is is complete evil!!!! I hope they end her a**
And please could you ask alan ball if he plans to stick with the flow of the books as he has so far. Though things where changed will season three still lead [spoiler alert for those reading the books] to Club dead and Alcide?

Did anyone notice what Bill was wearing when he turns up at the Queen's place at the end? Could this be a flashback? And why was the show 15m short?

Because they only needed 45 minutes to tell the story

I don't really know what Sookie is but I don't think she's a faerie!
I wrote about it here on my blog: http://itsnobigdeal.wordpress.com/2009/08/24/true-blood-new-world-in-my-view-02x10/

Oh my, I really want to know if they're sticking to the storyline in book 3, club dead. That's one of the best books in the series, so I'd love to see that played out in TB.
Also, will Eric become one the main characters on the show? As for now he's only had a supporting role.
I'm also curious if they are going to include Alcide and Debbie in season three.

In terms of future plots, is diverging from the original novels a goal to create something new or has it happened organically? Can Alan elaborate on the process of creating the story arcs for the show/

Awesome episode. I think that carry-all thing that they put Bill in is one of those big plastic cases that people put on top of their mini-vans when they go on vacation. It also kind of looks like a space coffin.

I feel ripped off, where is my 15 minutes they owe me? they could of at least put a still picture up of sam in his apron and I would have been satisfied!
Jason pretending to be a god, with Andy helping? hilarous "Smite me, smite me" "what is he saying?" "SMITE ME DOWN!" I was on the floor by that time rolling around laughing.
Jessica biting Mrs. Foytenberry......I predict that by weakening her, the hold that Maryann has on Mrs Foytenberry is broken. Bill going to see the Queen will play into this, she will send out a cadre of vamps to drain the people of Bon Temps weakening maryann enough to make her leave, I mean if there is no chaos anymore? she wont want to be there, and maybe Sookies "touch" will come into play again? Pure speculation on my part

The episode felt slightly like "filler" to me but the Lafayette line was perfect so it makes up for that feeling.
Will they have to kill the pig to weaken or destroy MaryAnne? Sam told Andy the pig was real and it was important.

To all those bitching about the 45 minutes ep:
Do you get upset when one chapter in a book is shorter than the previous chapter?
Would you rather they filled with crap just to get you a full hour?
The freedom to not have to fill a 30 or 60 minute hole in programing is one of the reasons HBO and Showtime shows are a good as they are.

I guess it was the way it ended. It was a good episode but you know how cliff hangers are. Watching the episode then going "WHAATT?". I can't wait until next week. Atleast people aren't complaining about the show.

If anyone reads the books, you already know what Sook is. I laughed when I read that comment about being hooked on Erik. Again, after reading the book, I was shocked at the actor playing him. Erik is a Viking! Big, strong and HOT. This guy? ewwww. I'll stick to the books.

You're joking, right? Are we looking at the same actor?
Alexander Skarsgard is a Nordic god!
I've read all the books, too, and I'm definitely on Team Eric. And, no, AS doesn't look exactly like I imagined Eric (I wonder -- could anyone?), but he damn sure comes close. I think he's made Eric all his own -- not quite so flamboyant as the Charlaine Harris version, but I really like his low-key approach. I think it takes more skill to show restraint than to emote all over the set.
Re AS's physique ... have you seen him as Mr. January in the Fangtasia calendar? If not, go here:

If this doesn't ring your chimes you need an intervention. I'll be happy to send more pix!

I hope season 3 really starts to develop what Sookie "really is." The books have only recently delved depper into that part of Sookie's life, but it's extremely interesting. It would be great to see the characters Claudine and Claude introduced to the series.
As someone who's read the books, I know what happens with Sookie and Bill, but I find myself wondering if Ball will follow the same path. He's been very willing to change major plots to suit his needs (Lafayette living, for example). In the books, I'm a bigger fan of the Sookie/Erik realtionship more than I am of Sookie/Bill.

- As interesting as this show is, the way the people of Bon Temps are depicted as idiots irritates me. With the exception of Lafayette, most of the people in Merlotte's diner approach things (like going to rescue someone despite the viewers knowing that it's a trap) almost childlike and without consideration for all that could go wrong.
And I'm not talking about while everyone is under Maryann's spell either. Everyone in town is simply not that bright, Jason Stackhouse being a good example.
- Last week, I said that Arlene is on the top of the "Most Annoying Character on Television" list. Let me add Tara to the list today.
- I have to say something about people who plug their own blogs (commercial or otherwise) in the comments portion of TV Squad: YOU HAVE NO CLASS AS TO ADVERTISE YOUR CRAP HERE. Knock it off already.
