For the love of (Fruit of the Loom) underwear

Fruit_of_the_loomYou gotta love it when a commercial makes you laugh out loud. I know that in my memory, if an ad can make me laugh, I'm more likely to remember it and -- maybe -- buy the product.

Here's a couple of commercials from Fruit of the Loom that are just hilarious. Both extol the virtues of the company's underwear -- for men and women -- and use humor to sell the stretchy privates.

The more recent one is a take off on Cirque du Soleil, with dancers from the show, wearing the undies while a really lush ballad is sung by the Fruit of the Loom men:

Generally speaking, I don't usually notice underwear commercials, although lately with Sarah Chalke and Charlie Sheen hawking the products -- not to mention Michael Jordan -- they've been hard to ignore. This is clearly a more high profile area of clothing than I knew. But I think the Cirque du Soleil tops the celeb endorsements because it's subtle. If it were just the dancers, it wouldn't have worked. It's the singing Fruit men that sells it.

Celebrity does play a role in another Fruit of the Loom ad, and this one is even funnier. Grammy-winner Vince Gill (he actually has 20 Grammys!), a great country singer, but seeing him crooning very seriously about underwear is priceless. I wonder how they approached him about doing a song for a commercial about underwear. Clearly, the guy has a great sense of humor, because he said yes and did a terrific job. Take a look:

By the way, TV Squad bloggers wear all brands of undies. This is not an endorsement for Fruit of the Loom... just so you know.
