Is Guiding Light actually going to sabotage the Reva/Josh relationship?

Guiding LightImagine if, at the end of the 10-year run of Friends, Rachel ended up marrying Paul Rudd's character.

Doesn't make much sense, does it? But that's pretty much what's happening these days on Guiding Light, as it heads toward its last episode ever next month. The long romance of Reva Shayne and Josh Lewis - something that has been simmering off and on for over 25 years - has pretty much been over for a while.

But I thought that, since the show was ending, they'd start wrapping up classic storylines and actually get Reva and Josh together forever, to please fans of the show. It doesn't look like that's going to happen.

In fact, the opposite seems to be in the minds of the writers.

Maybe they don't quite know the Reva/Josh history or they know it and just don't care, but they're actually setting up a dramatic, romantic reunion between Reva and her current hubby, Jeffrey. He was presumed dead in a plane crash and she's mourning him, but he's actually alive, hiding out and trying to stop the crazed Edmund from destroying the family. I'm not quite sure how the hell Reva even ended up with Jeffrey (it happened during a time on the show that remains a haze to me because it was so badly written), but I don't care. Longtime fans of GL deserve to see Reva and Josh get back together.

There was a slight hint that Reva and Josh might get back together in today's episode, as Reva realized she was overwhelmed with pain over Jeffrey's "death" and went to Josh for help. He said he couldn't help her because he was still in love with her, but if she helped herself maybe at some point...

This was done to say to Reva that maybe Josh would be interested in getting back together with her once she was over Jeffrey and had her head on straight. But we all know that once Reva and Josh get back together, Jeffrey is going to show up and throw a monkey wrench into the whole thing. And there isn't enough time for Jeffrey to get jealous or do something dumb so Reva will hate him so Reva and Josh really can get back together again at the end of the show.

We're in the home stretch for the show, and it's going to end with the "big story" being Reva and Jeffrey finally getting back together and Josh...oh, who knows. He'll either marry the lesbian or dedicate his life to his construction company.

None of this makes sense to longtime fans of the show but will probably please people who have watched it for two years. But I guess it makes sense on a show that's also going to kill off one of its biggest characters, Philip Spaulding.

Imagine if at the end of Friends Rachel died of a horrible disease...
