There have already been rumors, but we all know how studios have this annoying tendency to milk franchises until they're dead, and then milk them some more before the corpse gets too cold. Well, Universal seems to think that now that Ron Moore's operatic space war version of the show is done, now would be a great time for Bryan Singer to direct yet another reboot of the Battlestar Galactica franchise.Singer is said to be a big fan of the original 70's series, but the supposedly $10 million dollar paycheck for Singer probably also has an effect on his directorial willingness. Despite the talent behind it, this reboot is a bad idea. Singer did X-Men, but he also did Superman Returns. Plus, too many reboots in too short a time would only be confusing to people.
Of course, this time creator Glen Larson is on board to produce. While it didn't turn out so bad last time Larson wasn't involved, not having him would be like remaking Buffy without Joss Whedon. Oh, wait.

This is such a terrible idea. Remakes as a whole are tricky, and then to take one of the most successful remakes of all time and try to remake it yet again . . . and considering that, with Caprica and The Plan coming out this version of BG still seems to have plenty of life left in it. Why can't they see they were beaten to the punch, a LONG time ago, and move on?

I think Glen Larson is bitter at this version, so he wants to quickly remake it. This will probably flop, seeing how RM's version is loved by everyone right now.

what do you mean loved by everyone? i mean, i guess i would concede that the show overall was great, but with one of the most dissapointing, lazy endings to a show in television history, it would be very hard to say that this show is loved by everyone. And I'm pretty sure that is the consensus of BSG.

aren't there any other sci-fi franchises out there in need of a first remake/re-imaging/re-whatever. I can think of a few stories that could benefit a retelling (granted the film be well done).

This just reeks of desperation on the part of Unviersal; a company that hasn't had much luck at the box office this year. Syfy's BSG is barely done as a series, with a stand-alone movie still on the way, and they're already talking about a movie that will ignore all that. Moreover, knowing how Singer likes to spend money, this movie will probably cost more than the entire 4 seasons of the series and will be luycky to break even. Maybe this will be the final nail in the coffin of Bryan Singer's lackluster career since wowing us with the great The Usual Suspects.

"There are those that...are obviously a bit confused or lacking of fact." Larson, Singer and DeSanto were in the process of continuing the original series prior to the Moore re-imagined series. Unfortunately the production was scrapped due to the 9/11 incident and the shows parallel ideals with human extinction and the real life tragedy along with some other production issues. Universal felt it was a bit too early to throw something on TV so soon after what happened and backed out. This allowed for Moore's series to be greenlit 18 months later (a small amount of pre production work was shown during Galacticon '03) as they saw some great stuff and the rest is history. I'm original series fan, and I also enjoyed the "re-imagined" series but honestly for anyone to comment that the idea is dumb, based on bitterness or even desperate should consider that without Larson and Universal, BSG would never have existed for a re-imagined series to be pulled from.
