For those who couldn't figure out what Glenn was talking about: The good health care system is the private system which insurance pays for while the bad health care system (VA) is government run and which Obama wants to roll out for everyone. No inconsistencies if you bother to pay attention. Who wouldn't? Someone who'd say

"The hole that they stiched up in Glenn Beck's ass hasn't healed enough for him to stop talking out of it"

MY GOD, that Pulitzer is practically yours Jon! They should retitle the show "Jon Stewart - Awesome Newscast - Good News!

Why does everyone think that you will HAVE to have the government insurance? If you have private insurance and like it you can stay with it.

Please get your facts straight before spouting off.

You describe the private for-profit system as the good one? The one that routinely denies services for members who have paid their premiums? Look up the word "recission." I work in the healthcare insurance industry and two companies I've worked for have been fined tens of millions of dollars for unfairly revoking members' coverage. The same "good" healthcare system that has done little to nothing to control the spiraling costs of healthcare, because they cna just conitune to raise premiums to make sure their profit levels are met?

And then there's the "bad" government-run healthcare system, currently embodied by Medicare and the VA. Ask participants in those plans how many would rather have a private for-profit plan that would charge them up the wazoo for lesser coverage.

Then you say the Pres. Obama wants to roll out a government-run healthcare plan for everyone. Is there some aprt of the words "public option" that you don't understand. It is an optional plan, designed to compete with the private plans for people who can't get insured through an employer or get a reasonably-priced private plan.

All of the people yelling and screaming nonsense without any consideration of fact or reality appear to have no consideration at all for the 45,000,000 uninsured people in the country right now.

There are some aspects of the current plan that some may find distasteful. For instance, the law would stipulate that if you do not have health insurance, whether through an employer or other method, you must purchase it. If you can't afford it the government would subsidize it. However, in many states, auto insurance is mandatory for drivers and this is no difference. One coworker of mine has no health insurance (he's a contractor with no benefits) and his health plan is simple: If he has a major health incident he'll promise to pay cash then declare bankruptcy. That is the kind of behavior that contributes to spiraling costs, as the doctors and hosptials will just get stuck with his bills.

So Andrew, Beck may not be inconsistent from your point of view, but anyone who listens to him certainly is full of shit.

The GOP has this drill down cold: use apocalyptic rhetoric that rachets up the fear, bigotry and extremism among the uneducated and intolerant. Keep turning up the heat and act surprised if ever somebody finally heeds your calls for extreme action. Be sure to say you were only speaking figuratively and you are being unfairly blamed when violence occurs. Keep your celebrations behind closed doors.

Our healthcare system can at the same time the best in the world and still need serious fixing, the two states are not mutually exclusive.

I have Multiple Sclerosis and am receiving tremendous care from Kaiser Permanente because my wife is a high school teacher. I don't want anyone to mess with that, even if it is indirectly by undercutting all the competition.

Do you think Kaiser would provide such great care for a small fee to public school teachers and their families in a market where they are simply undercut by a low-ball government plan?

The healthcare industry needs serious oversight and reform, not yet another bloated bureaucracy playing cost-benefit analysis games with the nation's disabled, unborn or elderly.

You are right to an extent, but the problem is if your employer chooses to switch over to the government option then it takes away your individual right to stay with the private option.

actually glenn beck when he was on cnn was in favor of reforming healthcare and now that he's on fox he against it, i have a theory as to why i believe that the fox news network is telling its on air personalities what to say and how to think that woulod explain beck calling obama racist last month

I'm always amazed by how often The Daily Show manages to find clips/reports where the subject is caught lying/flip flopping. One wonders why the "real" news shows don't do the same.

You spew out Obama talking points, half truths and bogus statistics like a broken lawn sprinkler, but let's look at a few high points. First of all you believe that the so-called "public option" is just some sort of benign government program that will compete and complement existing health insurance plans. The only reason the government can "compete" with any for Profit Company is because it has the unlimited power of taxation and doesn't have a requirement to make a profit. The government also has the power to set the rules, which a private company cannot. If you read the House bill HR3200 (which neither Congress nor Obama have done) there are a few passages that are inconvenient to your argument. How about Sec 312, P 145, Lines 15-17 - Employers must auto enroll employees into the public option plan. Sounds like a required public plan to me. Once the government makes the public option attractive enough employers will drop their current plans and dump their employees into the government plan. The insurance companies will then be left out in the cold, since according to Sec 223, P124, lines 24-25 No company can sue the government for price fixing.

The 45 million figure has been bogus from the start but I will debunk it one more time. When you subtract illegal aliens (who are not uninsured AMERICANS), people making more than $75,000 per year who could afford to buy their own insurance but don't, people who would be covered by another government program but don't take advantage of it and people who are uninsured for less than 4 months but are nonetheless counted as "uninsured" you get about 10 million people who are chronically uninsured. Still not great, but it can be addressed without blowing up the current system. It also makes me wonder what else Obama is lying about if he won’t set the record straight on this obvious lie.

Way to miss the point. You do have an argument (that I disagree with, but hey you do have one). However, that is not the topic of this conversation. The point is that Obama's head cheerleader claims that Beck contradicted himself and it's clear to anybody who does real research (outside of comedy central), that he didn't. You may disagree with Beck, but he didn't contradict himself. Only to Stewart and his fans, who usually don't pay attention because they tend to pretend to be more enlightened than even the source of information. There is nothing genius about digging up video archives of someone and cutting and pasting till they end up looking however you want them to look. Michael Moore and Robert Greenwald definitely taught us that.
