AMC is bringing a serous, post-apocalyptic zombie suspense series to television, but it's not the first time that idea got kicked around. As we reported, The Walking Dead is on its way to TV, with Frank Darabont writing and directing to get the series off to a good start.
But, two years earlier, a team of writer/producers planned Alive, a syndicated series featuring a small pocket of human survivors fighting to find a cure for a global viral pandemic that transformed humans into zombies.
Series creators Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens and Epic Level Entertainment went so far as to produce a series of fictional, show-dedicated websites and viral videos to create buzz for the show -- partnering with elite FX house Chiodo Bros. to create their zombies.
But, it seems as though this show was over before it ever got started -- as it was for many series conceived and prepared just prior to the Writers Guild of America strike. With the work stoppage, development money dried up and -- when the dust cleared -- Alive wasn't.
Since Hollywood loves to follow the leader, Walking Dead could open the gates of hell and let Alive through once again. We'll see. Keep watching the graveyard.
