Frequent TV Squad readers know about my undying love for Gilmore Girls. Newbies, you're about to get a taste (and you can thank ABC Family's endless slate of GG reruns for this post).Since the show ended its seven-year run in 2007, I've been following the careers of stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel very closely. Graham won raves earlier this year for her Broadway debut as a nightclub singer in a revival of Guys & Dolls. Things were looking up for the talented actress until ABC recently decided not to pick up her new sitcom, but Graham continues to show up in supporting roles on the big screen.
She's currently starring opposite Jeff Daniels in The Answer Man. The film received some pretty scathing reviews for its sappy story but, not surprisingly, most critics praised Graham and Daniels' performances. Fans missing their weekly dose of Graham can look for it playing in select cities.
Let's hope Bledel has better luck with the upcoming Post Grad, a comedy about a college graduate who can't get a job and is forced to move back in with her family. (Think of it as Reality Bites but with less angst. And less Lisa Loeb.) I was hoping Bledel would take on a more serious role for her next project after her turn in the ER season finale, but at least its not another Traveling Pants movie. Post Grad also stars Michael Keaton, Glee's Jane Lynch and Zach Gilford, aka Friday Night Lights's Matt Saracen. Check out the trailer below:
Post Grad hits theaters August 21. What do you think, Gilmore fans? Will you be there opening day, or is it time to start a letter-writing campaign for a Gilmore Girls reunion flick?

"The Answer Man" is also available via VOD if your cable provider offers HDNet. I actually DVR'ed on a night that it was on HDNet Movies (it's one of those films that Mark Cuban buys and offers on DVD/HDNet/theaters/VOD at the same time) and I really enjoyed it.

Thanks a lot for that cock-tease of a title. I thought they'd actually greenlighted the GG movie.

I'm wth you Mike, I miss my girls. I also love FNL and the work of Zach Gilford (but when I saw the trailer w/family we all yelped "it's Matt!") so I think this is one I might have to see.

Not sure if I'll see Post-Grad. Nothing really pulling me in that direction. I'm surprised you said that Lauren Graham got rave reviews for Guys and Dolls. The review I read (and I wish I could find it now) tore it apart.

My thoughts on Post Grad based on the traier:
They already made that movie. It started Winona Ryder, Steve Zahn, Ethan Hawke, Janeane Garofalo and Ben Stiller and was called Reality Bites.
(There's also a little bit of the TV show Privileged in there.)
It seems that Bledel's acting has improved a little bit. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED Gilmore Girls, but her monotone, whiny voice made me cringe and when I saw her in another movie it felt like I was watching Rory in a different setting. GG was all about the witty dialogue (the words, not the voice) and pop culture references - especially the newer references which they must have written and shot promptly - for me.
