(S02E08) "It grew back." - Jessica to Hoyt
You know, I never really thought about it, but Jessica is in a really interesting situation. She was a virgin when she was turned, so of course, each new time she makes love, it's going to "heal up," and she'll have to start from scratch, so to speak. What an awful predicament!
It's not so bad for Hoyt, who seems happy that "every time will be like our first time." Not so for Jessica, who says, "But it'll hurt like hell. I'm a fucking deformity of nature. I'm gonna be a virgin forever."
True Blood is starting to remind me a little of Dexter, with the blood and gore and knives cutting into juicy body parts. First Sam finds Daphne's heart-less corpse at Merlotte's (nice work by the makeup crew, by the way). Then we get Maryann cutting up the heart, baking it into a "hunter's souffle, and feeding it to Tara and Eggs. Soooo disgusting. This scene might have been even more disgusting than the one with Bill and Lorena having sex in the bloody bed a couple weeks ago.
Here's the thing. Don't you think Tara and Eggs would start to get a clue that Maryann might be the cause of all the weirdness in their lives? And yet, they still don't get that she's whacked out? "I got this sick feeling I did somethin' real bad," says Eggs. Uh, yeah. Like cutting someone's heart out and getting it fed to you. That's pretty bad alright. I was practically screaming at the TV: "Don't eat it! Back away from the souffle!"
Something's not right about Godric. One side of me wants to believe he's just a really nice vampire with a heart of gold who wants to live peacefully with humans. I mean, he called Sookie a friend to vampires, and said to Eric, "We ARE frightening. After thousands of years, we haven't developed. We only grow more brutal, more predatory ..."
And yet, there must be more to it than that. Plus, the whole thing about him being in the church seemingly willingly. I admit, though, my cable was in and out due to a thunderstorm, so I may have missed something crucial here.
Other Stuff:
"You're worse than Judas." - Sarah, after shooting Jason with the paintball gun
"Why, what did he do to ya?" - Jason
"He's your maker, isn't he?" - Sookie
"Don't use words you don't understand." - Eric
"You have a lot of love for him." - Sookie
"Don't use words I don't understand." - Eric
"I'm a cadet with the Light of Day Institute. I'm strapped." - Jason
Smiley Eric is even creepier than dark Eric.
Jessica being mortified when Bill burst in on she and Hoyt making love. "I don't know what you heard, but those were screams of pleasure ... right?" - Hoyt to Bill and Jessica
I'm not up on my card-reading skills. The "Justice" card that Lafayette turned over for Tara; what's it all mean?
"I'm actually older than your Jesus. I wish I could have known him, but I missed it." - Godric to Steve
"I reckon I've been to Heaven. I was inside your wife. - Jason to Steve
"The bond between a vampire and his maker is stronger than you can imagine. Perhaps one day, you'll find out." – Eric to Sookie (I think he was talking about HIM, not Bill, turning Sookie)
Jason hugging Bill.
"They say I sodomized a pine tree. Must be true ... My pecker's got all kinds of scratches on it." - jailed guy
Looking forward to your thoughts on this episode.

The Justice card's prime message is that of accountability. Justice appears to us when we know we should do something and we're not doing it. Maybe it's as simple as knowing we ought not to have that third doughnut - perhaps it's as serious as returning something that was stolen back to its rightful owner. Whatever the case, Justice serves as a loud message from our conscience. Remember Jiminy Cricket in the cartoon Pinocchio? The Justice card is to a reading as Jiminy Cricket is to Pinocchio - a little (sometimes nagging) voice that lets us know we should do the right thing.

Godric seems way too much of a pretty-boy wuss to be a superbadass vampire. I know vamps don't age and all, and I know he's thousands of years old despite his looks, but still... he just doesn't seem like the type of guy Eric would have a lot of respect for, "maker" or not (and Bill has proven in this very episode that vampires don't have to unconditionally love and respect their makers). To be sure, he seems a little too passive and eager to turn the other cheek (certainly acts a lot more like "Jesus" than any real-life "Christian") to be the type of vampire who'd get promoted up through the ranks of vampire leadership.
On another note, was tonight's episode the first time in the history of filmed media that someone picked a final tarot card that turned out to be something other than the "death card" (or maybe the "love card")? It's such a cliché that I can't name any tarot cards other than 'death' or 'love' (certainly didn't know there was a 'justice' card out there... unless they just made that up for tonight's episode, not sure if there even is a standardized deck of tarot cards.

Based on what little research I've done on Tarot, there is no standardized deck. Also, if you watch Carnivale, you'll get much more than the Death card, though that one does make an appearance.
And Godric was pretty hardcore during that scene with Lorena. He was nonviolent, but very intimidating, I thought.
Oh, and Bill had been 'released' by Lorena, I think that's why he could resist her.

Well, there is a "standardized" deck in the sense that most decks usually have 78 cards, broken into 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana.
The Majors are the "picture" cards, like The Lovers, Death, Justice, etc. They show up a lot when tarot's depicted in movies/tv because they're very dramatic.
The Minors are like a deck of playing cards, made up of four suits with the addition of a "Knight" card between the Jack and Queen.
So to answer your question - yes, Justice is a regular tarot card and not something they made up for the show.

First vampires hierarchy (and powers) seems to have a lot to do with age. Thus Godric would obviously be up there.
Godric's character isn't trying to be badass or isn't necessarily supposed to be badass. He's supposed to be a wise old vampire who has come to want peace between vampires and humans, and wants to repent for centuries of wrongdoing while wanting to move on from this world (very Anne Rice). Also we only see him for a second when he's young, and only the day before his death when he's older. There's a lot left in between.
I find that much more fascinating than someone who just would kick ass.

Don't know what happened to the rest of my message so here it is...
The work "fuck" before the break. I love TVSquad a lil more now. Yay Jane!
Jessica is an awesome addition. I feel bad for her predicament tho.
The Sookie & Eric convo that you quoted had me laughing hard.
Halfway thru the ep I thought it was almost over just cuz theres so much, i was shocked to find out i still had half of the ep to go. yay me!
I think Godric is just trying to stop everyone hating on everyone. Also, Eric needs to grow his hair back.
And seriously? You just had to stop right there, didn't you? Fuck!!! Stupid cliffhanger...
I fucking love this show.

Speaking of Eric needing to grow his hair back.... wouldn't it grow back every day?

I'm loving Eric more and more. From his exchange with Sookie to his creepy attempt to be a member of the church....I love his character.
I am so over Mary Ann, Eggs, Tara and none of it making sense. I am willing to let it play out this season but someone needs to kill her quick. Its the weakest part of the show for me and I almost want to fast forward through it.

Agreed. I'm sick of Maryann and her "powers." I wanted Jason to wise up and he finally did. Now I'm waiting on Tara to wise up. I don't think Eggs will be here next season.

I agree on all points. On a related note, I especially can't stand the "accent" of Tara's character. It's something between a cry and a whine and it drives me nuts. This show is so incredible but I've had enough of that storyline. Every time the episode goes from the exciting things happening around the vampires, Sookie, etc, to Tara I want to fast forward. The only thing redeeming about it is the inclusion of Sam and the part about Daphne was interesting.

MaryAnn needs to be destroyed. She is ruining the story line. It was a sick scene with Maryann and the heart. The next thing you will find is someone in real life creating the same ... get rid of this type of action in the show. Jason is too dumb. The show writers act like they are groping for new material and don't know where to go or do with the characters.

"Jailed guy" is Mike Spencer, the coroner, so you know.
Are you sure it's cool to put spoilers that big before the jump? I think even if you hadn't seen last night's episode, if you had been caught up otherwise that would have spoiled that detail.

When I first saw Maryann the first season, I thought "awesome" because she is in the books, but now way into the second season I am confused as to how she is still there, and how will they get rid of her (the book solution obviously wont work) I am so tired of the black eyed, over sexed, violent townspeople and I am especially tired of Tara and Eggs being so gosh durned idiotic. "I blacked out" "so did I" "lets just ignore that shall we?"
Godric isnt supposed to be a badass anymore, he is beyond that, he has reached a sort of enlightenment after 2000 years and that is his POINT to the others, evolve or die, get along with humankind, or be a predator forever and that isnt acceptable to him. Erics reverence for him comes from a)him being his maker and b) the respect an older vampire like Godric gets.
I predict that Jessica will start biting Hoyt during sex, because when you bite down on something , the pain you feel usually goes away.
