Danny DeVito and the gang from Always Sunny
Before I spoke to Katey Sagal at last night's FOX party, I ran into Danny DeVito, who was conveniently wearing a It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia hat, just in case people had no idea what show he was there to promote.

We talked a little about Asbury Park, NJ, where he grew up, but then the subject turned to his current show, and the new holiday-themed DVD subtitled It's A Very Sunny Christmas. The DVD will be a never-before-seen feature-length episode where the gang spread Christmas cheer with their usual blend of inappropriate humor, uncomfortable situations and general mayhem.

DeVito mentioned the DVD as he talked about the exploits his character, Frank Reynolds, will be up to this year. "It's off the charts. I'll tell you, Oh my god. There's an intervention; I'm over the top they come in and intervene. I go to a frat house and have lots of fun there. We have a Christmas DVD coming out that's off the charts, doing everything we can't do on television. It's like basically sex, and drugs and rock 'n' roll. Anything we want."

I asked DeVito about the incident where he appeared drunk and flirted with a reporter on a Philadelphia morning news program. He reiterated what he's said in the recent past, that he was in character as Frank and only acting drunk.

"That was part of the intervention show. I was drinking fake beer in the morning when they came to do the interview. I was in character, just having fun with her. She's OK; I can't remember her name, but she's a pretty nice lady. It was just one of those things where I get a little bit of Tourette's in that direction when I get into it, then I start doing it, and then I just kept going farther and farther. It was kind of fun."

When I asked DeVito if he was surprised that a) the clip rocketed around the interwebs so fast and b) people thought he was really drunk so early in the morning, he said no on both counts. "What we do is live in a world, where right now it's perception of the moment. Things come out and it's hot stuff, all over the world," be it the video from Philly or the time he was seemingly drunk on The View.

"I think what's good about it is that we're interacting and we have synergy with millions of people we've never had before." He cites an interview he did at Comic-Con for his website The Blood Factory as something that rocketed around the internet quickly. "It's an immediate thing, the internet is so vast and wonderful, I think that things like me showing up on a TV show having fun worth somebody, going around the country in a second is , you know, (a good thing)."

DeVito mentioned the six-city tour the Always Sunny gang will be doing. "We did it at the Troubador; it's fantastic."
