Margulies doesn't think Patti Blagojevich is a Good Wife - TCA Report

Juilanna Margulies @ the 2009 TCAsIn her TCA session to promote her new CBS show The Good Wife, about the wife of a state attorney who tries to build her life and career after her husband has a Spitzer/Sanford/Edwards kind of downfall, Julianna Margulies was asked if she thought Rod Blagojevich should count in the pantheon of "Good Wives."

She said that Mrs. Blago's situation was different because her husband cheated on the people of his state, not on his wife. "Then she goes on a reality show. I mean... god..."

OK, so Mrs. Blago doesn't belong in the same company as Silda Spitzer and Elizabeth Edwards. Would any of them be willing to give her advice on how to play the role of a wronged political wife? "I think all those women are too classy to grumble about anything."

It was tough for Margulies to go back to another courtroom show after the flameout of her Fox series Canterbury's Law: "I wasn't eager to get back into a court drama because they're hard," with complicated dialogue and shooting schedules. But she felt the courtroom was a good backdrop to examine the development of her character, Alicia Florrick. She was also intrigued by the character dealing with getting into the law game after putting her career on hold to raise a family.

Being a wife and a mother has definitely affected her point of view and decisions when it comes to job choices: "I've had a great ten years away from ER. I never stopped working (doing plays, movies, etc.). But i'm a mom and a wife and i need to stay in one place. and I love working. TV is the medium for women. I love the characters they play. It's a good entry place to play a mom and play it from this point of view."

Will the show be ripped from the headlines? Creator Robert King (who runs the show along with his wife Michelle) doesn't think so, but the scandal revolving around the disgraced Peter Florrick (Chris Noth) will always be a part of the show. "We will always have the tentacles of the scandal (in the show). Sometimes peter will be more innocent and sometimes more guilty."
